Well they did plan Crysis to be a DX10 game, so they made the engine around the DX10 theory.pirana6 wrote:

But CryEngine2 is designed for DX10.
Built along side of, and will take full advantage of, yes.
i have heard that it makes your computer explode
The developers will want Crysis to perform and not be unavaliable to all but the super psycho PC owners. If people with generic high-end PCs can't handle the game then Crysis dosn't sell and the developers don't get their money. That being said I'll probably buy the game even if I can't run it. It is sexy.

Not according to all the people at Crytek.Agent_Dung_Bomb wrote:
Given what has been promised, and the demos I've seen to date, that card of your won't even come close to powering that game on high settings at any resolution considered reasonable.
My guess is also that this game is going to need an impressive CPU, given the massive amounts of physics and AI involved.
One of the best sounding things about Crysis is that it actually takes advantage of all the new fangled CPU tech to run efficiently. It supposedly runs 10-15% faster (per thread) in 64-bit Vista. It is also supposed to be well optimised for multi core CPUs.
As for the GPU side of things, Crytek claim a 7800GTX is fine (according to Crysis Art Director, Michael Khaimzon) at fairly high settings and that a 1900XT plays it very nicely in relatively high settings (Jack Mamais of Crytek).
Ultimately it's hard to say. We just have to trust them, they're the ones who know.

or should I have gone through and gotten a socket 939 cpu ?

I like the news about the 64 bit vista... but I heard that on all high with AA and AF cranked, a 8800GTX could hardly scrape by with 3 or 4 fps..

More than 3-4 fps ^^
I hope they code the game as well as Sierra did with FEAR. I am able to play that game with med/high settings with an avg of 40fps on a 6600gt pcie with 128mb memory.
Well, the 6600GT is the minimum here, so - well, that means 800x600 on all low without AA/Af, I guess ^^
