"A 79-year-old anti-Castro Cuban exile and former C.I.A. operative linked to the bombing of a Cuban airliner was released on bail yesterday and immediately returned to Miami to await trial on immigration fraud charges."

I can already hear usmarine typing 'yawn' but let's just look at this for a moment ...The US claims to be fighting a 'war on terror' and yet this TERRORIST has just been released on bail to await trial on immigration charges ...WTF!? Shouldn't this butcher be on trial for the people he killed in the bombing of that Cuban airliner and not immigration charges. How would the US feel if another country had a 9/11 bomber in it and that country refused to extradite the bomber back to the US for trial and to add insult to injury tried to get the guy done on immigration charges as though that was all he was guilty of?

Is it only specific parts of 'terror' the US are at war with?

The US has long supported Cuban anti-Castro terrorists. It's nothing new.

He was trained by the CIA to carry out the airliner hit. When I was in Cuba I saw Carriles' face all over the daily news every day and on billboards - he is the most hated figure in the whole of Cuba. This is just another example of US hypocrisy and lack of principles. Ironically if he was Muslim they'd probably have no trouble extraditing him to Cuba - to Guantanamo Bay that is!

I know, that's my point ...they are hypocrites. It just annoys me that the US attempts to insult the world's intelligence by claiming to be this incredible force for good when they are every bit as active in terrorism as the countries they accuse. They are equally as bad as all the countries that they claim are part of the 'axis of evil'.

He is in the middle of court proceedings for the court case, but was released on bail while he awaits the next stage of the trial. The other immigration thing is a totally different case...

You don't release self-confessed terrorists on bail McMinty. I don't think they're trying him for any acts of terrorism either.

That would be easy to win, we can just walk up to them and shoot them in the ass while they have their heads in the sand.

You can't seriously say the U.S. is as bad as North Korea?

International human rights organizations Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, among others, accuse North Korea of having one of the worst human rights records of any nation, with a severe restriction on political and economic freedoms. North Korean defectors have testified as to the existence of detention camps with an estimated 150,000 to 200,000 inmates, and have reported torture, starvation, rape, murder and forced labor.
Or as bad as Holocaust-denying Iran, which gives money to suicide bombers (Hamas) and is ruled by religious authorities?

I won't bother trying to defend North Korea because A: we don't get nearly enough insight into that country's situation to make an informed judgement and B: I actually think Kim Jong Il is a muppet and probably is a tyrant who is not worth defending.

But...

Iran treated those British captives a hell of a lot nicer than the Americans treat the captives at Guantanamo bay, who are treated with no regard to Internationally accepted human rights, are not given a fair legal process and IF they ever do get released have to sign contracts agreeing never to accuse the US of abuse, torture and maltreatment.

By the way Iran did not deny the holocaust Ahmedinijad did. Should we presume every word that comes out of George Bush's mouth reflects the exact thoughts of the American people themselves as a whole (for the American people's sake I sure hope not). I believe Ahmedinijad took a lot of flak for saying that in his own country.

PS ...giving money to suicide bombers you say?

has it not occured to people that Iran snatching, holding and then releasing the hostages was part of a huge propaganda campaign that succeeded wholeheartedly.
