This debate will NEVER end as long as the game is around.
Having completed the sniper awards now, having just earnt the specialist badge (and 109hours to date as sniper), I have to agree that they CAN be better than medics - and have come to realise how valuable they are to a team's efforts in winning.
Take Surge on IO (where I just earnt it). In both rounds I came top of the leaderboard - above every other medic in the server on kills and almost rivalling them in teampoints. All of that whilst being SL both times, issueing orders to the squad and running rampant between flags when we could (especially as Spetz).
Certain maps dictate which classes will dominate. Generally, city maps provide havens for medics. Maps such as Surge/MD/Jalalalabad provide havens for snipers to dominate, and no medic is going to be able to beat the amount of snipers you face. In fact, in both rounds of Surge just now 50% of our team was playing sniper and there were THREE medics.
Yes, medic is the superior infantry class for its weapons, sprint and teampoint abilities - however, they are not dominant on every map in the game: IO mode or not.
Im sure that in any clan match: yes, they are. However, public play: they are not always.
And that is because most players can't play outside vanilla city maps so you have to adapt. You always have to adapt to the situation - and some maps require more than a pair of shock paddles.
