Microsoft taking beta requests for next Vista update
In January-end, Microsoft released their new Windows Vista Operating System. Now the software giant has begun accepting beta testing applications for a forthcoming update to Vista which is related to its Media Center functionality.
Jessica Zahn, a program manager on the Media Center team announced the beta testing program on the Microsoft’s Connect site.
Keen Vista users are required to complete an online survey and the results are expected to be out this May. Zahn added on their plans stating, “The survey is deliberately broad. It would probably be a mistake to assume everything we’re asking about is going to end up in the next version, whenever that is.”
“Is this next release going to be an update to what is in Vista now (i.e. service pack) or is this for the next version of Windows?” asked a user identified as ryan.tollefson. Chris Lanier, forum moderator, replied: “It’s Vista-based, not a ‘new’ OS.”
“We only have so many spots, and we need a diverse group of testers from across the US and from supported countries,” said Zahn. “You’ll only be contacted if you’re chosen, and we will choose people by May 31.”
Microsoft did not however divulge whether this update will precede or succeed Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) which is also slated for release sometime this year.
