I don't know if the knife in bf2 is 'standard issue' but it looks exactly like a bayonet. They have a clip on the end of the handle that hooks to the bayonet lug, the handle guard thingy goes over the barrel.

BF2 Knife

Look familiar? Apparently, the standard issue knife of the US Army today was originally designed as a bayonet.

I like the idea.

It would be a nice alternative attack weapon, like the rifle butt strike in some games.

It would be quicker than waiting for the weapon change of the knife.

As someone said earlier, it could also be used to cut fencing.

I know a couple spots in SF that I could use that feature.

No, the last issued Bayonet Charge was (I think) in the 1980s.
correction, the last beyonet charge was yesterday on a jalalabad server when i got sick of all those snipers and i rushed the uncap, knife in hand shouting I DEMAND A BEYONET CHARGE!

no response, except a few snipers pissed themselves

Hmmm and for an alternative engineer attack they could let us use the shifter melee attack and in the top left hand of the screen iot would say

THERE NEVER WAS A BF1918 !!

At least not from Dice

EDIT:
Just Google'd it and it is a 3rd party mod.... you can't post something like "BF1918 had" without saying it is a mod....

I would much prefer a bayonet, considering I use the scroll wheel to select my weapon, and usually when in a tight situation with a baddy I usually pull out an AT Mine or 'Nade and throw it at them instead of said Knife.  That's why i'm better off just staying in the Armor.

only for certain kits.

Like for assault, instead of a knife, you get the bayonet.  Other classes get knives.
