Well..Im leaving the next year but I have to work out which University I want to study at AND what I want to study(which is an almighty bitch)..

I was thinking of doing my first 3 years in a combination course of economics and history and after that taking an additional year of law.

I was also thinking about applying to Oxford(the only bitch is I HAVE to get a very high IB result) but this limits my UCAS choices if I don't get in..what do you think?anyone have any experience in these courses?and guidance would be greatly appreciated..

Oxford is,in my opinion, the best university we have over here.

It is but it limits my UCAS uni application to 4 choices instead of 6 + I reckon I could get in but then again the requirements for those subjects are very hard.

I have also heard that although Oxford may have an excellent reputation, a new student there wouldn't usually have the opportunity to learn with the "famous"professors. It is still a brilliant uni though.

Oxford may be the best university in the UK, but it isn't in every subject. I don't know about those though. Also, I have heard from people that have been that it's uber competitive once you are there. TBH, that isn't really the kind of uni I'd want to go to, but I don't really know you. BTW, unless you're predicted 42 points you don't stand much chance of getting in.

All my friends that have been accepted to Cambridge and Oxford are all required 41/41 points unfortunately. The UK doesn't really understand the IB right now, as 7's in all IB classes is quite obviously harder than 3 A's in A-levels. Any idiot can get 3 A's at A levels. (not insulting people who have done A-levels as I'm exaggerating slightly)

well, if you're applying to Oxford then you should probably have a darn good idea about what you want to study, why, etc.

I almost did a semester at Oxford. . . .too expensive I didnt want my parents to fork over all that cash for just a year or 6 months. . . .

My school had a program where you could study abroad, and the two Univ's were Oxford and Peking Univ in Bejing. . . .

If I were to have gone, I would have done Oxford. . . . .Very prestigious, almost too prestigious for this slacker!! lol

Four UCAS choices is more than enough.  Apply for Oxford, don't worry about having less choices.

I'm in my second year at university now studying Marketing Management (Newcastle Uni) which is a great uni, high quality of education and the nightlife is phenomenal.

You will enjoy it, good luck.
Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.

Wow - Why go to a university that is full of tossers with double barrel surnames, and first names like Tarquin, that go to daddy's castle at the weekend.. If you're going to do Law, you will have a Great time at Queens in Belfast..

Economics and law seem useful. Not so sure about history.

Oh...abroad - otherwise I would have pointed out that US universities are much more expensive than English ones.

Apply to all the ones you want to get in to in order of preference. Wait until you see what offers you get. Go to actually see the Uni and see how it feels.
Most importantly, choose the course you enjoy most. Do not accept any other course even if its at a "better" Uni. You just wont get through it if your heart is not in it, and you have to work at it for a long time so make sure.

So go where you feel you fit in and do the course that you are interested in.
My only concern is mixed degrees - not keen myself

I'll be leaving the nest next year too.
Not to go to university. Just to start my own life.
Good luck by the way!

History is very useful, but you do have to enjoy it. I am currently doing a history degree at Royal Holloway with some of the course at King's. Both economics and history are strong  here.

I went to Oxford, St Johns, studying Economics and business enterprise. Oxford is also fantastic for law. Do your best at IB but it's the interview that'll count for 95% of whether you get in or not. Whatever you do be original and for God's sake make sure you've done something of note outside of your academic studies. Go climb a mountain or something, they love that!

Don't listen to agent146 either, Oxford will open so many door's for you after Uni it's not even funny, even if you get a 3rd. Work hard, do something interesting, and wait for the golden handshakes
