Sound help...

Hey i fucked something up with my computer today, and now, i cannot listen to sound. When i try to run things that require sound, like ventrilo, realplayer, ect. i get messages telling me i have invalid devices/my devices are already in use by another program...

In control panel - sounds and audio devices - all of my options are greyed out. As if i dont have a sound card. I think my sound card is built into the mobo because i know i dont have a seperate one...

I tried reinstalling my sound drivers multiple times, and they've all been successfully installed, but when i open them (there Realtek a9... and come with a little player) i get the message "Unable to get a DirectSound object" (without the space)

I dont know what to do now...

Also DXDIAG says i dont have a sound card installed. Double-U Tee Ef!

Check that, make sure you have the appropriate device selected.

yeah make sure you have the correct device selected, also when you then open up your individual programs, there might also be sound options there which you will have to select the correct sound device. I had a similar problem a week or so ago where for some reason different programs started to select different sound devices.

Check whether it's disabled in the bios. It's worth a try before getting all the trouble with system restore/reinstall.

control panel -->sounds and audio devices --> audio. if it doesnt let you change it there, it should be somewhere on that panel.

well the audio, voice, and volume tabs are all greyed out, i cant select anything in them. the hardware tab is active but i dont think it serves a purpose, and the sounds tab is useless too i think... any more help? its like i have to do something before i change the Sounds and Audio Devices.
BTW i didnt see that screen crazed mentioned.
I need to open the volume, but i dont know if i can...
