"close to best practice" doesnt inspire confidence.....thats kind of like "we think iraq has WMDs" right?

The lancet survey is probably more accurate than other lower body counts (like on the: Iraq body count website). Even if a reasonable margin of error is applied - how many potential civilian casualties are we talking about (hey let's be unreasonable and say robust demonstrated to be reliable methods suck - and could be off by 50%)?
If 650,000 is off by 50%, that is 325,000 civilian deaths. Either way it is not the 65,000 +/- deaths reported on the Iraqi Body Count Website (what this website does is not a reliable method, it is a measure based primarily/merely on watching what deaths are reported in the media).

A definite tragedy - no doubt.

How many civilians were killed before the invasion by Saddam and his sons? We don't know because they didn't keep track and you all didn't care. Why now? Oh thats right because it's popular to jump on bandwagons.

The survey is an update that confirms other sampled counts, methods, and prior surveys.
http://www.jhsph.edu/publichealthnews/p … _2006.htmlUpdated Iraq Survey Affirms Earlier Mortality Estimates
Mortality Trends Comparable to Estimates by Those Using Other Counting Methods
I do not vouch for the results, but I do not dismiss them either - the actual (civilian death count) number may be very high.

But thinking of it now, I came to a conclusion. This is the most worthless piece of war EVER. We aren't pushing back comunism, its not combating terrorism either, more like promoting it, oil prices are still high, the Iraqi people are being killed much more than under Saddam's regime and the Iraqi democacry will probably last not a minute longer than the presence of coalition troops.
But another thing comes to mind too. So many countries offered to help when Katrina devasted New Orleans, and when the tsunami hit. Why aren't they helping out with Iraq?

Iraq was never a threat to the US (they never had the weaponry nor inclination to do against the US unless attacked by the US) and Al Qaeda was nowhere near as active in Iraq prior to the current conflict ...therefore the US invasion has directly helped Al Qaeda in it's warped extremist quest.
