Snipers are known as long range killers right? Am I right, of course I am. But wait a minute, then how come if you go far enough you can see a sniper even when grass covers him and choppers can see him from above. Yes I know this is a graphic thing that may never be fixed but does anyone know where I' mcoming from? I just the grass that the sniper is hiding can cover him like all the time instead of just the gpu of the enemy not being able to recognize the grass when the player is like 25 feet from the sniper making him "naked" out there and vulenerable.
Yes, Also, the fact that the sniper can be outsniped from the top of the TV station by some git miles away with his G36 on 1 shot
Ridiculous
Sniper Rifles should be 1 shot 1 kill. Head shots dont seem to work when the enemy is lyin down either

Oh, it's not just Snipers! I was playing as Special Ops in Karkand. I spawned at the USMC NE Artillery point and as soon as I could I went prones and crept forward. Three seconds later - POW! I could not even **SEE** the aggressor and , no, there was no one behind me.
good points but what i'm getting at is this. say you're hiding in a bunch of grass and someone thats liike 4 feet away shouldn't be able to see you but someone who's like 25 feet away can see you because their graphics don't see the grass but instead just see you lieing on the ground making you a clear shot with is fubar by all means. and i guess any gun that shoots you in the head should be a one shot kill but i wish the M95 had more power to it. like maybe sacrifice ammo or sprinting capabilities if you used it to up the power on it you know what I'm saying?
1 hit 1 kill are u bloody serious stop tryin to turn this into css ... the awp recked it then an it will reck bf2 an will screw the balance of a good game like this u are a serious idiot for even thinkin this... surely u can see that making these changed everyone would be a sniper even on karkand..
A good sniper stays mobile so that the enemy never finds him. If you're laying down right in the middle of a field, you're going to die. Keep moving, and keep an eye out.
ill second that and dont lay claymors down unless you real need to save you'er @$$Tagmaestro wrote:

you gotta lean how to hide as a sniper. never pick a grassy area. all it does is mess up your own field of vison. make it so there is something like a tree or rocks by you so you look like you are part of that. . also you need to be patient. most people are very impatient and just shoot at enemies without taking their time, aiming for the head, and checking to see if there is anyone else that will spot them when they take the shot. and if you have to take the shot knowing they will find you when you do, then you gotta know a good place to run.
Well i think 1 shot 1 kill is fair with a m95 if you get a headshot or a upper torso.
Especially when theyre lyin down
I dont think its fair the fact that someone can be killed by someone in the distance with a g36 or SCAR when they have a sniper. How unrealistic is that ??!!!

Delta Force 2, ahhh the good ol'days of sniping...
Who remembers this one? You could take your barret and truck out about 500-1000 meters in your ghillie suit, lay down in the grass, and have a field day. The enemy (unless sniper) couldn't see you or shoot you that far out, they would have to close the distance and in the process you would dot their forehead over and over and over.
BF2 makes that impossible for serveral reasons.
1. If you can see them, they can see you. Most maps don't allow you to see more than 300 meters due to fog, terrain, etc.
2. If you can shoot them, they can shoot you, no matter the kit or weapon class. This is mostly due to the lack of available engagement area. Most assault rifles can shoot 500 meters accurately when handled by a well trainded individual. So the idea of using distance to increase your chances is ruled out by lack of viewing distance (even with 2 7800 GTX graphics cards, tweaked out, gaphis all set on High, and viewing distance set at 100%).
3. Hit damage does not equate the actual ability of the more powerful rifles. Last time I was witness to the results of a M95 round vs. an M24 round there was a very noticeable difference, and not just that one can shoot through glass and the other can't.
4. Camoflauge is ineffictive. what's the point of given snipers ghillie suits if they provide no more cover than a SF guy running around in a bonnie hat?
and i could go on and on but bottum line is you have to find those 2 or 3 good hides on each map that you can just lay there, off the beaten path, choose your shots carefully, dot some foreheads, and move often, if not after each kill.

For the last friggin' time everyone, the sniper class is fine everyone! From now on, every person who starts a new thread about how the rifles should be more powerful, or the sniper should be more ranged, or the M95 is t3h sux0r should be banned. Jeez.
but the game is adjusted for that meaning that all weapons do roughly half their real world damageSeantheMan wrote:

so if you had a one shot kill m95 you would have to have a one shot kill machine gun, a 2 shot torso hit being a kill for any assault rifle, much greater range for shotguns, one c4 for tanks, one or at most 2 american tank shells detroying another tank etc
The game balance is almost perfect as it is - dont screw with it
If you want realism wait for Armed Assault http://www.armed-assault-zone.com/news.php or go play Counterstrike if you want terrible weapon balance

My only problem with being sniper in this game is that to get any shots you have to be right in the middle of everything, while in real life you would be in a highpoint or even out of a city picking guys off, but whatever I stopped caring.
eh since when, go into a crane or a hill and you'll soon be taking out peeps from rangeshspunkrockr wrote:

i personally think that the snipers camoflage is very effective - he looks like a bush on a hill exactly what he should be
you won't know it unless you examine every suspicious bush or it suddenly starts moving
the grass thing is a technology issue - it works just fine at very close range
besides i don't see what is so hard to understand about you being killed in long grass - it may be blocking your view but anyone who has a heighth advantage would more than likely see your darker camoflaged big ass sticking out from behing you!
I agree this totaly. There's nothing wrong with weapon balance atm. so there's no point to screw it.$kelet0r wrote:

Agreed.... I would hate to see the sniper-class turn into a second noobtube-carrying class, which would be precisely the case. And actually... the M24 and M95 ARE one shot kill weapons... all you need is skill, patience and a steady hand.BiRdMaN829 wrote:

yep i agree with grim reaper cuz i 1 time shot a headshot while a guy was running like from the Us base to that tempel thing in mashtuur when i saw u killed ..... i was like wow...... and thay say that is to hard to kill.....

read this post if you want more evidence to game balance
we know or can assume that bf2 is set in the near future (t90s, j10s etc.) so we can assume that body armour is this good also - meaning that in fact bf2 is perfectly balanced
this armour can stop a hit from a M80 - a level 4 ballistic threat
i love clarity

Maybe you don't play sniper a lot,the viewing distance is a friggin' joke!!!BiRdMaN829 wrote:

It shouldn't be possible for SpecOps to shoot it out with a sniper on 200-250 meters.
The specops-guy hops around and has 30 shots which he can fire in semi-auto mode and with the excellent accuracy of the G36c + the 30 round-clip the sniper has no chance of duking it out.
Sure,we don't need 1shot-kill-weapons,that's what the AWP of CS is there for,but being limited to a range which is not longer than the one of the guys with the automatics is a big drawback as the sniper class, there is no excelling at long range,if it stays like this it's Mickey-Mouse-bullshit,not sniping.
Well... for starters... if you get hit by a spec op bunnyhopping and shooting the G36C in semiauto at you at a range of 200-250 meters, you actually violated several rules of sniping and a couple of combat rules as well:Mj.Blindfisch wrote:

Rule 1: Don't be seen. Apparently you were.
Rule 2: Take a few well placed shots, then move your position. Well... he is still alive and you are still in the same position... bad move.
Rule 3: Take a covered position at some distance away. Apparently your position was not a covered one... hence you're dead.
Now for one important combat rule:
If you are being shot at and cannot retaliate, get some frigging cover... apparently, you missed that too. And if you where not in range of suitable cover: see rule 3.
By the way... the M23 and the M95 are not suited for closer direct confrontation... I would recommend the SVD Dragunov or the Type 88 for that (got one assault at some time trying to get closer to me only to catch 3 rounds of the SVD... and that was about 50-100m distance)
Oh... and if the visibility range is not enough for you: check your video options for that... sniping with 75% visibility range is crap... and if it is at 100% and still not large enough... consider playing another class on that map.
You should be able to hide in the grass but you can't. I have accepted that and have begun searching for better spots (I won't tell any of you any of them). The funny thing is that your suit is several shades darker than the grass!!! lol!!! what did the sniper make the suit from in the first place???
My most memorable time I found an enemy sniper was on sharqi. My buddy and I snuck into the tv station from the the "secret" route (you know the one where you walk around the base on the outside of the fence to enter the tv station through the back door)(if u didn't know that route you should) in the room with the flag we set up shop and began to cover the door and the ladder. I covered the ladder while prone next to the defense gun. That defense gun has a flowerpot thing next to it with a bunch of plants in it; at least thats what I thought until I saw the plants move...a panic induced barrage of bullets into the "mutant plants" soon silenced what turned out to be a sniper within knife range from me.

What a sneaky bastard... good thing you didn't try to lower you pants and give the plants some waterthe_ubernoob_ wrote:

If the sniper was one hit kill, then no one would use anything BUT the sniper.
Snipers should have better and more hiding places.
If you are lying down in grass, your body and weapon should become translucent, so you are harder to spot out. If you fire a shot though, you lose your see-through ability for a little while (5 seconds).
