Errm I corrected you.  To sit there is St Louis one of the most notorious gun crime cities in the US and say the world is civilised is nothing short of ludicrous. And yes, I am aware of my privileged life in the west but i'm not gonna sit here and type deluded comments as you have.

simple as that.
Yeah but whose fault do think it is that it's easier to get into Iraq and operate as a terrorist now? That's my point, Americas foreign policy is cultivating terrorism not fighting it, not in the long run.
what i am saying is that if we stay in iraq, the likelihood of another attack on US soil is minimal. im sure someone will come along with some poll to tell me otherwise, but thats what i think.
I see, you believe in exporting your victims directly to the source? How many of your fellow Americans have died in the Middle East now? Combat terrorism within your own borders, don't go racing around the world looking for a fight that was never there in the first place.

The US is like the tough guy in the bar who wants to start a fight with everyone because they're 'looking at him funny'.

Since when do terrorist respect borders? And if the terrorist comes into our country and flees to another? Or what if a terrorist cell uses another country as a staging ground to attack America? Stop and think about those questions before you say stay in your own country.

The objective is to seal and protect those borders and Braddock is not debating whether or not a terrorist will respect them.

Well they seem to be respecting the Iraqi border a lot less now than before the US invaded. Did Britain deal with the IRA by destroying the whole of Ireland to counter terrorism? ...no and we now have peace. Wars don't combat terrorism, effective intelligence and policing does.

I wasn't sure of where I wanted to take this topic when I started it, I just wanted to put in perspective the amount of civilians dead comparing it to the worst natural disaster of the century.

But thinking of it now, I came to a conclusion. This is the most worthless piece of war EVER. We aren't pushing back comunism, its not combating terrorism either, more like promoting it, oil prices are still high,  the Iraqi people are being killed much more than under Saddam's regime and the Iraqi democacry will probably last not a minute longer than the presence of coalition troops.

But another thing comes to mind too. So many countries offered to help when Katrina devasted New Orleans, and when the tsunami hit. Why aren't they helping out with Iraq?
That's what I was looking for - an opinion.  By just posting something like "nine people died today in Iraq" really is stating the obvious - that it sucks.

And I do believe they are helping out with Iraq in their own way (criticism perhaps?) but a full fledged Red Cross mission can't happen until it calms down a bit.  Even if we pulled out today, stability to allow the aid is a long way off.

If 650,000 is off by 50%, that is 325,000 civilian deaths. Either way it is not the 65,000 +/- deaths reported on the Iraqi Body Count Website (what this website does is not a reliable method, it is a measure based primarily/merely on watching what deaths are reported in the media).

A definite tragedy - no doubt.
I posted the IBC site which refutes the 650k number, which was the purpose.  There's a lot of dead, and the purpose wasn't to get into the "we killed X not Y debate" but was basically worried about rehashing the whole 650k number yet again by the Lancet link that popped up.  So in conclusion, it's a lot and too much, whatever the number is, and it blows.

OK, so how is trying to establish a government, build infrastructure, build schools and hospitals, build an economy all while battling neanderthals not helping? We give the lives of our soldiers so that Iraq can be a rock in the middle east as it was before. Furthermore, your assumption that the west created this tsunami is false. That region hasn't seen calm waters in a long time.

How many civilians died under Saddam Husseins rule. . . . .hmmm

How many people were mistreated/tortured under his regime. . . .

Keep in mind he was the leader for over 30 years. . . .

bottom line: War is the abomination of man. . . .yet unfortunately its necessary.  No one really knows how many civilians died as a result of this war.  I can tell you that the US military goes OUT OF ITS WAY to make sure it doesnt intentionally kill innocent people. . . .the same can't be said for our enemies!

Unfortunately innocent people die in urban warfare, its something that is an inevitability. . . .

Theres been a war, almost-civil-war, and a violent occupation in an already-violent part of the world, of course thousands have died.
