As always, the latest attack smear (on a person who isn't even running for office?!?) by the conservative attack dogs ends up pointing one finger in the right direction, while 3 fingers are pointing right back.
All the companies listed there in the article are major conservative (other countries) / Republican donors who lobbied very hard to make sure the "Carbon Offset" legislation and regulation had no teeth whatsoever. This of course blew the door wide open for them to manipulate and take advantage of consumers that just wanted to do the right thing. You can't expect a corporation to do the responsible thing on their own can you? You can expect them to try to make the most amount of money for the least amount of expenditure...this is known as profit.
To find the players in all the corruption of the world, "Follow the money." To find the captains of world corruption, "Follow the money all the way."
Basically, every attempt in the last 2 years to introduce a bill to regulate the carbon offset industry or protect consumers has been killed on arrival in Congressional committee. CSG (Conservation Services Group), a lobbying firm, has attempted to gain sponsorship twice now for real regulations and couldn't even find a sponsor. This is exactly how the industry wants it though, especially with the Bushies running the EPA. Sooo, lets follow the money...
DuPont Chemical - 80% of $330,000 to Republicans, 20% to Democrats - This doesn't count individual donations from employees and shareholders, it also doesn't count money spent on pro-industry lobbying groups.
http://www.opensecrets.org/pacs/lookup2 … cycle=2006BP - 66% to Republicans in the last cycle, not counting individual donations
http://www.opensecrets.org/pacs/lookup2 … cycle=2006Interesting to note that Democrats won major despite getting the shaft in corporate donations. Also interesting to note what a bunch of cheap whores our political leaders are (both sides), taking sometimes a pitiful $1000's of dollars in exchange for influence which makes industries $1,000,000's.
As far as using this as a cheap shot at Gore, I'd say its a long stretch at most, as well as pretty useless in the end. Its like when the frothing conservative attack machine got all excited about Kerry's botched Iraq joke, "Wow, he's going to lose an election he's not even running in!". My favorite lately though is Edward's $400 haircut, seems like its not even an original attack, they're just recycling Clinton attacks. What's next, accusing Hillary of getting a blowjob?
To sum up we got -
Pointy finger at Al Gore - Why? Because he makes a good punching bag. I mean the guy won the 2000 election and still rolled over like a stupid sheep dog and let the Supreme Court appoint Bush. If that's not a pussy, what is?
Finger One - Bush-controlled EPA which is anything but about "Environmental Protection" that should be on this.
Finger Two - 6 years of Republican congress that wouldn't dare regulate industries, especially silly environmental initiatives...they got gay marriage to fight!
Finger Three - Polluting industry lobbying groups and direct PAC's, throwing money as fast as they can at politicians to ensure their long-term ability to rip-off well intentioned customers remains the status quo.
