In light of the recent worldwide shortage of industrial morphine, is the decision by the British to allow the cultivation of poppies by Afghan locals actually a good idea? I think it is as it gives the Afghan population something constructive to do as they could seel their crop internationally and goes some way to empowering them to rebuild their country themselves.

I agree although it does make sense. The west needs the opium and they need the money. Surely it's win win as long as it's regulated?
