I think it's a little rich that the Iraqi government pour scorn over the decisions taken by the US House & Senate when they've now had four whole years to try and get their own act together and put their own house in order. Do they want to be baby-sat forever or something? When are they gonna take responsibility themselves?

I'd like to hear a neo-cons 'timetable' for the 'mission'. Any takers?

The bill gives Bush and the Iraqi Government what the conservatives want, except there is a deadline for withdrawel. If anyone is politicking, its the conservatives. The House and Senate passed this, as it was the will of the American people. The Iraqi government is basically Bush speaking anyway so of course they have the same rhetoric as Bush. This bill is telling Iraq to get thier shit together. I dont see anything wrong with that. If they are refusing to get thier shit together, then what happens happens after we leave. Good luck Iraq.

Maybe they are smart enough to know that such idiocy only encourages the assholes planting the roadside bombs and sawing peoples heads off, and dumping bodies in the Tigris river after they drill into their skull.

Announcing time lines for withdraw is folly and demonstrates why it is that the Democrats cannot be trusted on matters of such grave importance.
Any person with the slightest inkling of military engagements should understand that you never announce plans. WTF. are democrats really that stupid?
Yes, yes they are...

I am writing this letter as an individual American expressing his right to speak up, even though I am an enlisted active duty Army soldier.

Your statement that the Iraq "war is lost" is irresponsible and is demoralizing to me, on of those “troops”. Your statement also gives hope to an enemy that cannot win in direct confrontations. That by randomly bombing civilians, spreading fear and chaos, it can cause those without strong will to leave the Iraqi people behind to a fate far worse than Saddam's torture chambers.

I disagree that this war is lost. This xenophobic insurgency will fail with the full support of the United States Federal Government. We are doing our jobs here, day in and day out, and we need you to do the same in Washington D.C.

Mr. Reid, sir, I ask you to show courage, the kind I see every day from my colleagues. Stand up and stand firm with me against terrorism, suicide bombings, and social mayhem by backing me up and providing a united front against such horrors.

Will you support me, a soldier in the Army, and stand up against evil?

Is it really that stupid? If you let the insurgents know you're leaving they're hardly going to attack you more than they do now. If you are leaving and you don't tell anyone, you're going to get attacked as if you were never going to leave at all because that's what the insurgents will believe.

Announcing timelines for withdrawal is folly? So what are you suggesting? One morning Iraqis wake up to find out that the Americans have gone home all of sudden?

I think this guy is a little delusional. I don't think he's quite realised yet that the US army can't prevent any of the things he speaks and in fact are responsible for allowing a situation to arise whereby this kind of thing is now daily life in Iraq and are also in fact a significant factor in bolstering the rallying call of the insurgents and terrorists he is complaining about.

Let's face it - Al Sadr had several ministers in the government and can bend the will of the prime minister with ease...

Based on his position, I'd say he's probably doing the same type job I was doing when I first graduated DLI, probably a fellow 98G.  So I'll also safely say he's never seen a grain of sand except on the beaches of Florida and California.  Its a cute work of bravado and empty rhetoric, and I wish the guy the best of luck in figuring out how to keep crap from fouling up his 16 when he ever makes it there.  Another part of me thinks he could be a different MOS, because intel analyst requires critical analysis, which there is none in here.  He might be Psyops.

It is disappointing that the best the wingnuts can do is parade out a tired series of REMF's and retired Cold Warrior's to pen these.  But, for every 1 of these testimonials there's at least 20 you can find either at http://www.votevets.org//index.php?opti … ;Itemid=69 or http://www.ivaw.org/membersspeak

If you have never served but feel you're in a position to make judgments, you can call 1-800-USA-ARMY or 1-800-MARINES and talk to someone who really wants to hear your opinion.  I'd give the Air Force number but I think everyone here has testicles

As far as this:

Ok, I'll try to stay Sesame Street and use little words:  Harry Reid is doing his job.  His job title is called "Senator".  A "Senator" is paid, by taxpayer dollars, to introduce legislation that represents the will of the voters.  Voters are eligable citizens of the US that by law supposedly have enough brains to pick who will represent them and lead them.  Voters are, however, not given IQ tests or Bush loyalty tests to become eligable to vote.  Senators can also perform functions like oversight of other branches, investigations, and drinking cocktails given to them by hookers paid for by lobbyists.  In this particular case, the American people voted overwhelmingly (do I really need to fish out the numbers?) in the last election to end a war that we were brought into by lies.  For him not to introduce legislation to this effect is both unethical and would mean he is not doing his Constitutional duty.  The Constition is a body of laws...oh fuck it, why do I need to explain this?

Our troops will keep getting their paychecks whether this bill passes or not, their pay comes from the regular defense budget.  Most of their weapons and ammo and food comes from the regular defense budget.  I lived through this same shit during the Clinton years when the Repug congress wouldn't sign the budget.  My paychecks didn't stop and I still ate.  No big deal.  This supplemental budget is actually contract payments.  They should be saying "The Democrats hate KBR!  The Democrats are betraying Blackwater!".  I personally don't give a rats ass about the mercenary groups run by Republican campaign donors.

As far as "surrendering", I don't recall any notes about our troops handing over their guns and turning themselves in to be hostages for Al Qaeda.  As Ron Paul said, "We Just Marched In (So We Can Just March Out)"

Right, so arguing one's views in the Senate as you were elected to do now brands you as a traitor?  Why not just declare Bush Emperor?

He went and said it in a interview, not in the Senate.

Your point?  Senators give interviews, for a large number of reasons.  All he did was state his views.  It's not like it's a state secret.
