    Saudi Arabia has arrested more than 170 suspected al Qaeda-linked militants, some of whom were training as pilots to carry out suicide attacks on oil facilities in the kingdom, the Interior Ministry said on Friday.

    The ministry, in a statement read on state television, also said police seized weapons and more than 20 million riyals ($5.33 million) in cash, from what Al Arabiya television said were seven armed militant cells.

    “Some had begun training on the use of weapons, and some were sent to other countries to study aviation in preparation to use them to carry out terrorist operations inside the kingdom,” the statement said.

    “One of their main targets was to carry out suicide attacks against public figures and oil installations and to target military bases inside and outside (the country),” it added.

    It said the suspects, mostly Saudis, had been “influenced by the deviant ideology,” a reference frequently used by Saudi officials to refer to al Qaeda.

Attacks on military targets wouldn't be terrorist attacks, government and security are debatable.

Having said that: your point?  It was stopped by police, which is exactly what most opponents of Bush on these forums expect.  Further, it was in Saudi Arabia.  An area where terrorism poses a real threat, unlike the West.

The attacks would have been aimed at the Saudi oil fields (populated by the country’s Shiite minority). If someone were to want to lash back at Sunnis, Saudi oil would be a prime target.

It is this "so what" attitude like bubbalo, sergeriver and jonsimon has that is going to be the downfall of our country. I truly believe this.

Terrorist attacks in Saudi Arabia are the downfall of our country? Why don't we invade Saudi Arabia then so we can police it? Lowing, it appears to me like you are trying to use an alleged terror plot in Saudi Arabia as evidence of terror plots in the US, which makes little sense.

Your belief after living for the past 10 years, that no one is interested in, have plotted to, or IS plotting for, terror attacks in the US is staggering, I believe you have your head buried in the sand deeper than anyone I know on here and makes even less sense.

You're too intelligent to make that comment...it implies the west is not threatened by terrorism. Surely that is not what you meant as history has proven it otherwise.

It is what he meant, according to him 911, Spain, the PI, Indonesia, GB, etc............. all was meerly criminal behavior that should be handled by local law enforcment. Nothing more and no big deal

It is a small world jonsimon, what happens in this war on terror affects us all, globally. That is why when I talk about the war on terror I do not only cite 911, but attacks worldwide. It is a fight we should be in together. If you think attacks of this magnitude would not affect us, you are crazy. If you think your liberalized collective indifference to terror attacks does not affect us, you are equally as crazy.

Excellent news. Everyone can sleep easier knowing less of these crazies are still operating in the world and the threat of terrorism has just been reduced

Lowing, you're too general. You're talking about "the war on terror" as if all alleged and self-proclaimed "terrorists" are in league with each other in some sort of dooms-day plot to destroy the world. You ignore the motivations for this "terror plot" in saudi arabia and simply group it together with every other event in the world that someone happened to use the adjactive 'terror' to describe as if doing so somehow vindicates any action you support. I don't know why I even chose to participate in this thread, I should have known you wouldn't have employed any sound reason or logic in your pursuit of emotional conclusions.
