ZOMGZOR USELESS POLL.

Well, just as the question says: which helps you stay alive longer on the battlefield - cover or concealment?

Cover = Anything sturdier than a corrugated metal fence. Bullets don't go through it.
Concealment = Static vehicle wrecks, advantage of height, trees. Yes, you can get shot, but only if they see you.

Personally, concealment helps me the most, by far. A few days ago on Dalian 64 as USMC, I went anti-tanking with a support friend and singlehandedly knocked out about ten tanks and APCs, a jeep, sent two helicopters back to Airfield for repairs, and generally confused the PLA armor. All of this was due to me hiding out in high places. If I had attempted this from the ground, I'd have been massacred repeatedly.

This as opposed to cover, which usually results in a tank finding its way around the cover and blowing me into small pieces, or 155mm shells dropping directly on my head.

cover. its about standing behind a box, and crouching, pop up, fire crouch, pop up, fire, croutch. if i am all concealed i cant get as many point as i want to. firing behind cover is best done with the M16 or AK, and it puts me closer to the action for more kills and points.

Yea, Concealment. Cover will only delay the inevitable if they know where you are.

You can often avoid an enemies view if they cant see you. The bush on Songhua, Harvest and even Midnight Sun are great examples.

Even though I voted for concealment, I think they go hand in hand. Cover is obviously useful, but it depends on the situation and what you are doing. I dont think you can say that one is better than the other. Situational awareness and map knowledge counts for a lot in this game.

Well, concealment, I mean you could spawn at the factory on karkand and hide under the chimney thing, no one would see you and you wouldn't see anyone the whole game, but you would survive...

Completely not a subtle dig at a certain one of my old tactics, right? Hmm? Hmm?

I remember when you were looking for me, you were right on top of me, and I shot you in the face with my SA80...ahh, good times...

Yeah. For me, the reason concealment is better than cover is because I generally engage armor and aircraft (hence most played kit = anti-tank). They have impaired vision and hearing due to the vehicle, and may not notice two guys 200m out on top of a crane, while an infantryman will instantly think "crane" once he thinks about "sniper", and proceed to blast the sniper off the crane with a few well-placed shots.

outmaneuvering your opponent so that he can't track you but you are aiming at his head...  its quite simple

but cover is more useful than concealment

Concealment, if they don't know I'm there I'll get more kills without dying myself , ie one of the balconys in ghost town.

My cover is my concealment, this game is all about fire and manoeuvre.

It really depends. Non-permeable concealment is the way to go, I think. It's basically combining the two. Find a nice snug corner between some sandbags and a burnt out car, or something.

Many people complain because if you're taking cover against a wall, your feet will stick out the other side. On the other hand, only your waist-up is visible. Food for thought.

Cover.
The enemy satellite and UAV see through concealment like a voyeur at a nude beach fence.

Also, sometimes I discover snipers beacause some random bush suddenly gets a red name tag.

omg people come on this isn't a stealth game. Anyone that knows this game at all realizes that cover is your best friend while concealment can be your worst foe. Cover is always there to block nade blasts and bullets while concealment often gives you a false impression of safety. I cant say how many sniper noobs I've shot through bushes or how many times I've killed a guy who prones behind a pipe thinking I cant shoot under it. By now on infantry maps at least, almost everyone knows all the best hiding spots and expects people there at all times. Sniping from a roof will help you no more than sniping from the ground if your head can still be seen. As soon as your spotted, you have an equal chance of getting killed. If you know how to use cover effectively however such as ducking and popping out at best moments, then that will surely improve your chances of survival. The element of suprise only gets you so far in infantry battles, while knowing how to properly avoid damage by ingeniously using the hillsides, terrain, buildings, and objects is the difference between a good infantry player and a poor one. You can even take my argument and expand it beyond IO where cover is your only friend and hiding behind a fence is an invitation to get blasted by an APC or tank. Nuff said cover>concealment.

you have a good point, i should have said i use both cover and concealment. but when i hide in a bush, its a couple hundred meters back away from the action. like at wake. form that far i dont have to worry about nade blasts.

Well, when it comes to evading fire, cover such as round a corner etc isn't your best friend when your hitbox decides it doesn't want to follow you round the corner and you die in spite of the big wall you ran round.

Cover! For the sole reason i'm an Assault an i attack people up close and personal! I need to duck behind stuff to reload and pop out when i need to kill.

Cover. If a good player has cover and an enemy doesn't the enemy's going to get killed. Get behind shit, crouch+prone to dodge bullets and shoot mofos. If you come round a corner and there's an enemy there, shoot a few bullets, he'll go prone, go back behind the wall, and pop back out and surprise him when he'll most likely be getting up / sprinting headed for you, unprepared. These are just a few tactics in infantry situations... It's down to you to play smart and have good situational awareness in game, so how you use cover is variable.
