I was playing a game of CS: Source and my computer screen flashed and left me with five sets of lines running down my screen that we're constructed of blocks in a checkerboard pattern where each block was about 4 x12 pixels in size.

essentially the columns of pixels made it so that i couldn't use my computer because whenever I tried to open a window the window was hidden under these sets of green colored pixels, and by moving the window I effectively moved all of the pixels that were on top of it along with it.

Thus far I have tried to clean/dust the inside of my case while removing all the parts and reassembling them, the problem appeared to go away after that, but as soon as i opened a window it was back again.

The computer will boot up fine with the exception for the video is chopped to all holy hell and i can't figure out why.  The POST shows that the RAM is operating fine, and I can detect all three of my HD's.

Also I have uninstall/reinstalled the video drivers and the problem still persists.

I have a picture on my cellphone but that is the only medium i have, and i have no way to upload it to the net sadly enough.

PC specs:
ABIT AL8 mobo
2GB (2x 1GB Corsair Select) Dual-Channel RAM
Antec 450W PS
ABIT X800XL 256 PCI-E
Pentium D 2.8Ghz
Zalman CPU Fan
WD (80Gb, 160Gb, 320Gb) HD

Any help would be much appreciated...right now my poorcomp is sitting in pieces on the pool table...

If you need more information let me know and I'll see what i can do...

Have you reinstalled the drivers for it? If that doesn't fix it, I'm afraid to say but it sounds like your video card just died.

Do you have a spare monitor laying around? Other than that it sounds like your gpu crapped itself.

That's what i was thinking, and hoping it wasn't my Processor...but I was thinking of getting a new vid card sometime before years' end...just not this soon...

I figure that if i can test a different vid card to prove that's the case then I will just have to go out and buy a new one...

I tried a second monitor hoping that was it also, but no luck...so my GPU is dead...which isn't the worst case scenario...

Anyone have any recommendation of what i should upgrade to then, I can't afford an 8800 but i think an 8600GTS is within my price range...sadly ATi doesn't have anything out yet...but i need my comp for school, so may just have to deal with it...

My suggestion is to get a lower end video card to get you though school. Wait for the next gen card market to become competitive and then take advantage. After all the 8800 will be a mid range card by the time most DX10 games come out.

And a Pentium D will no way run a 8 series card.
