Hey
Just wondering if anyone else here had this happen to them.
Only just 2 days ago i bought a new Asus 8800GTS 320mb version.
I used it for about 4 hours with an average load temperature of 85 degrees (which apparently is normal) then everything just turned off (my computer that is).
It wouldn't start up. The only way to get a peep out of it was to unplug wait 10 seconds then plug back in again, hit the power button then both HDD light and power light would light up for half a second then I'd need to unplug again.
After doing that a few times i started to smell something.... So ripped the cord outta the wall just in case.
Took out the GPU gave it a sniff... burnt.
This thing died only 2 weeks after my 7900GS died.
What luck
My suspicions for the death of both cards is either heat or maybe my 12V rail is faulty.
My 7900GS idled over 50 degrees which was suspected to be hot, although my gut feeling tells me they forgot to apply the thermal paste.
8800GTS seemed to be normal heat as well so what else could it be?
I have a Antec P180B with all the stock fans as well as a new FOX 1 Sucker that sits in the PCI slot and extracts the hot air coming off the graphics card straight outta the case. (Sits above my X-Fi card).
Now i have a 7100 sitting in here thanks to the shop i bought my computer from who've sent off my Leadtek 7900GS for repair (2-3 weeks... that's just 1-2 weeks to go). Now my brand new 8800GTS died and i'm yet to find out what's gonna happen with that (shop i bought it from was closed on Sunday).
Anyone else have any similar problems/happenings?
