well the fan on my x1900XT decided to die. The card itself is ok and seems to work (I did a quick test run with a ghetto modded fan). So now I need to get an aftermarket heatsink. Any recommendations? I'm leaning towards a Thermalright HR-03 A with a decent 92mm fan. The zalman v900 seems to be too weak to cool a x1900xt(x) properly. I'm not too concerned about it ejecting the hot air out of the side, my case cooling is sufficient. I don't really have any budget limits but watercooling/TEC/phase change is overkill and too much work to set up. I don't need a absolutely silent or uber-OCed card anyhow.

EDIT:
UPDATE:
bought and installed the thermalright heatsink today. That thing is a monster. Its taking up 3 of the pci slots below the gfx card but the temps are great. Idle at around 30°C, typical gaming load 40°C, loaded with atitool around 45°. Ghetto modded a 120 mm fan to it btw instead of the standard 92 mm

http://www.arctic-cooling.com/vga2.php?idx=90 had a Silencer 5 Rev 2. on my x800XT PE after the fan went on the stock one, fkin crackin thing, simple no nonsense cooler. That or anything from Thermalright that fits, theyre always a good bet.

Zalman VF900.

I have one on my X800GTO and I can't even hear it, even on the high setting. Plus it cooled my load temps from 90*C to under 60*C.

None of the above, they're all to weak (as you already suggested). A X800GTO is something that I'd cool passively as the Power it consumes is very low compared to a X1900XT.

The Thermalright HR-03 A is what you should go for, as you already said, it's got the power in connection with an additional 92mm fan (you can also add a 120mm fan if you have "Kabelbinder" [too lazy for LEO, see ] ).
Maybe you'd also want to wait for an Arctic Cooling Accelero S1, sine it will be cheaper than the HR-03 and have about the same cooling abilities with a 120mm cooler - so just wait for the release (I think it should be in early march or so)!

Its biggest "brother" namely the GX810 can compete with the Zalman. The GX700 can't - and the Zalman Vf900 even fails at cooling an X1900XT properly.

Yes, that was exactly my point. the x1900xt pump out a lot of heat (especially if they are OCed a bit). I have read up on the subject a bit and the general consensus seems to be that a v900 is just too weak. Good idea with the zip-ties (hey! I'm swiss, I know German). I saw the S1 but I can't wait. I hate gaming on my x1600 mobility. Thanks guys, karma for everyone
