I think this article brings up some valid points. First and foremost, it addresses the cultural divide between those of North African heritage and native French.
The important question I want to ask is, how do we go about changing cultural morays so that these women don't have to undergo surgical procedures to "prepare" them for marriage.
I don't know about in France, but most of my female friends had torn their hymen long before they had sex. Sports and bicycles were the most common cause. (yes, this is something we have discussed).
Obviously, we've overcome the need to marry a physical virgin in the US. How do we go about exporting that to the rest of the world?
