And by cheaters I mean people who have modified the game in some way to give them an advantage, like wall hacks or radar hacks (ie not stat padders, not people who exploit glitches, etc)

I guess you never bothered to take a peek at the monthy MBL (Master Ban Lists) over at PB. Lots of users are caught using Multi-Hacks, and specific hacks...Or other unapproved modifications. While there are for sure some undetected cheat programs out there, most have come to the attention of PB.DarkCloud00 wrote:
Only the most idiotic hack would get caught by punkbuster, punkbuster has to know what the hacks are if its going to catch them and they don't know jack shit.
WTH are you talking about? -> "And yes I see your redtags on the enemies =ccc= planewhore"DarkCloud00 wrote:
No, never checked, if I'm looking for hackers its going to be using my pbss for meh server and thats about it. And yes I see your redtags on the enemies =ccc= planewhore.

Excuse me because I'm not a programmer but I would guess the difference the job it has to do between AV software and PB is quite different. AV's have to scan the computer because each one is unique and may have countless safe and unsafe files but they don't have a benchmark with which they know how Windows must look. With BF2, all the files that is uses to run should be exactly the same on every computer (besides options settings but they could be ignored) so I don't see why it can't scan all the files BF2 uses and if they aren't exactly how they should look, ban! Obviosuly expansion packs would have to be catered for but I can't see why PB needs to know how a hack works before they can ban it. If the game files have been modified in any way, assume a hack and ban, simple!!!!s4vior6 wrote:
PunkBuster is like Anti-Virus software. It stops the current viruses but that doesn't stop the Malicious Programmers/Scripters from developing other hacks for it. Until it sees one, then they can develop a way to detect it. But only after they see it.
