Dusty PC, might it come back to haunt me?

So I just opened up my PC and there is a fuck load of dust on everything, I don't see any peformance faults, so I thought nothing of it and left the dust cos CBA TBH. What will happen if I just leave the dust forever? Just curious, if I really have to I will clean it.

It will overheat. Take a pressure duster/vacuum to it GENTLY.

Also, with the air movement dust can be abrasive.

probably it will just overheat, but sometimes the thing short-circuits killing your PC

For the sake of a £8 can of compressed air and 10 mins of my time I wouldn't be taking the risk of leaving dust all over my PC. (if it's really bad take it outside first otherwise you'll have a room full of dust with a clean PC in it)

Worse case (Balls & Huckles) take it an auto service station, use the compressor for filling your tire to blow it out.

those tank are full of moisture and water might as well use the water hose, take it to the car wash and use a vacuum there is a option.

Well, you don't put the PC on the floor & run the vacuum over it. Most household vacs have a hose attachement. If there is a PC repair shop close by they might have a staic free vac you can use. If not, leave the PC plugged in (turned off) while you work on it.

If all you can do is the compressed air, take the PC outside. Make certain you concentrate on the fans, esp the CPU fan - make that puppy spin!!!!! Try to get the tube between the mobo and case and really get into the power supply. If your video card has a fan - nail that too.

DO NOT put the compressed air tube into the CD/DVD or floppy drives.

alternatively you can just blow out the dust by mouth and get rid off the stubborn stuff with a brush. though compressed air is definitely easier

yea you DEFINATELY want to make sure you keep the compressed air at a good safe distance, it's spraying liquid, not really normal air you breath
