BTW, look at the last page of awards and promotions ffs. You'll see Gator, Ghost town, and Warlord. I haven't launched BF2 in months. I haven't played BF2 since I ranked up to colonel.

It's not a punishment though. Yes you can't rank up to brig general when you have oh, 1040 hours, or lt general when you have like 1100. But it encourages you to play more. So the 'stat padding' and stuff would continue more as they try to get time to get to Lt General or 4 star.
I have a question guys, and I'm hoping someone can answer me? I currently have enough points and time played for the promotion of General. I'm missing the Vet. badges for the Heli and Jet. I've been working towards getting them so I'll be qualified for the rank. My question is, when I finally do achieve getting the badges, will I rank up?
