Have some principles for fuck's sake! This man blew up a civilian airliner with his CIA training! The hypocrisy is mind-boggling.

"US justice department spokesman Dean Boyd said: 'We're reviewing the decision.'

Good god, you act like Bush himself gave him a pardon. The guy may be able to go free on technicalities anyways, but whatever the ruling, it's that own judge's opinion. Now if the government had officially lauded the decision, then you might have a point. Otherwise, we should just wait and see what the feds have to say about this.

You're right. Point taken. I can't see the administration condemning him however (ex-CIA).

If you wanted a real head scratcher you would point out the fact the US is now arming using the Mehdi Army. It seems to be having a good effect right now, but man that one could blow up in our face. We were just fighting them a few months ago.

That kind off stuff is what spawned this post.

Where does it say that? The story mostly talks about the troubles they've given us.

Did he do it? Do you know? Unless I'm quite mistaken, you've in the past criticized heavy-handed decisions from high up that are based on 'iffy' information.

No, its just my attempt to contribute. My wrist is broken ya see. You'll have a brief respite, and then in 3 weeks I'll be at your service entirely.

Hey if it works great. We have seen what has happened before when we empower our enemies. Hopefully our boys won't be in the sites of our own guns (again). It is at least deserving of some concern.

And of course Ireland has never been in involved in the training and habouring of people who have carried out acts of terrorism against innocent civilians...

You surprised me Cam, for a minute I thought you were talking about Orlando Bosch, who was actually pardoned by the elder President Bush. Can't say I'm too stunned that they're thinking about letting another one go though. Remember, it's only terrorism when those other guys do it. When the US government does it or aids people who do it, it's for freedom!

His lawyer, Felipe Millan, said the judge had ruled that statements by Mr Posada that were to be used against him had been obtained illegally.

"They tricked him," Mr Millan said.

US justice department spokesman Dean Boyd said: "We're reviewing the decision."
What's the problem?
He was CIA, he may have been involved in covert ops, and a foreign nation wants to try him, so it is no surprise they cut him some slack. The US justice department is reviewing the decision, so it seems a little premature to say that by him being released we are supporting terrorism, as he may be detained again.

Not that I support the blowing up of airliners or anything.

... And?

This has been happening since WW2. There was this little thing called the cold war, and all sorts of little groups got CIA funding. Bay of Pigs invasion against Castro, South Korea, South Vietnam for a while, Panama conflict, Iraq, Afghanistan, Chechnya, the list goes on.

Learn some history, kid.

And it's funny how often we end up getting bit in the ass by these people later. Maybe you should learn some history yourself. A good chunk of the problems we're having today can be traced back to groups the US government pissed on, pissed off, armed, abandoned or some combination thereof. No, I'm not saying "America is responsible for all teh evilz in teh world". America just has a little problem with responsibility and memory.

You know...  the more you think about it, the more you realize that it doesn't really matter which side you pick in this great big mess.

All major powers seem to support terror in one way or another.  The Islamists are the most blatant and notorious for it, but given our own government's record on supporting extremists, I can't say America is worth siding with either.

Time to make some money and then leave this fucked up country when I can afford to do so....

How is it such a big deal that we are using terrorists against other terrorist?  All that is happening is that they are being weakend by fighting each other.

Let me put it like this.  Say you have these 2 kids who hate you at school.  They use every chance they get to hurt you.  One day you pull a prank on 1 of them and make it look like the other one did it.  Now every day they fight  each other.  Problem solved.

I've always had a theory that eventually, any government no matter where it is or who makes it up will eventually backslide into totalitarianism. Kinda like that corporate-controlled dystopia thing I mentioned in another thread, I really wasn't looking forward to living it.

We've also pitted terrorists against legitimate governments.  How is that not the height of hypocrisy when now we go on about some "War on Terror?"  It should be called the "War on Terror that isn't convenient to our interests...."
