Holy Shit, HOTTT 90 Degrees on my CPU, My computer shut down during BF2, I restarted it into BIOS a minute later, temps recorded at 90 Degrees Celsius, wouldn't post... waited another 5 minutes, 70 degrees Celsius, posted... and here I am, I just placed an order for http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6835118004 ... I thought I killed my PC, I did OC the frequency a tad to only 2.55 (from 2.41) However, I've played it at 2.6 before with no problems, (On Bf2/2142) Only difference is that my room is about 5 - 10 degrees hotter with spring and no AC yet...

man i have a 4600 (939 version) and can get it to 2.7 no probs on air with a bog standard FSB increase. using the arctic freezer cooler. temps hit 41C sometimes

i take it you mean the last item in the general list you listed to?  make sure to take off the old thermal paste with some fast drying alcohol or a none static clothe (or both) before attaching the new heatsink. always helps to have your own thermal paste just inc ase as well.

the seal on the thermal paste could of broken. somehow became unseated, or the fan slowed/stopped working?

Ensure your HSF (Heatsink and Fan) is on properly, apply new thermal paste and be sure to clean your old paste off thoroughly WITH high concentration alcohol / component cleaner. I made this mistake of not cleaning it with those and my CPU only dropped 10C, now it dropped 30!

55 is still pretty hot i have a 4200 939 that i have run at 2.9 and temps never got over 44 i run it most of the time on 2.6 and temps never get over 40, if i was you i would take your cpu and heatsink off and start again, check to make sure the heatsink fan is working properly clean both surfaces off then re-paste up and see if that helps.

Yes, I will... My computer auto-turned off because it was that hot, that's normal correct? And did I do permanent damage because of this? I would play BF2/2142 again, but I don't want to risk it again until http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6835118004 is delivered to me... My computer seems to be working 'okay' now.

Edit: Does anyone know of any programs that can monitor temps while playing games, I viewed my temps using BIOS but idk what the temps are during intense gameplay.

Edit: I might add although I doubt it had any impact that I happen to be on a Gulf of Oman server Aprx 50 people, and I was flying the entire time in a bomber plane, I was the co-pilot targeting the tanks etc... I wasn't sure if that had any impact of increased heat of not...

everest ultimate edition lets you view your CPu temps and if you run the game in windowed mode that'll be able to be viewed whilst in-game. you have to pay for it though *cough*TORRENT!!11eleven*cough*

Okay, I didn't smell anything smoking, I think my computer auto-shutdown when it got hot enough before it could begin to smoke...

Edit: Does increasing temperatures of the CPU increase the temperatures of the Mobo?

My guess was was that it was 80 degrees in my room that caused temps to spike that much... the AC is on now, so it should be fine until I get my New HSF.

My comp always runs hot.  My AGP 6800GT averages around 75C, and I can't seem to get it down.  It still gets me low/med graphics on decent FPS though.

I would recommend this.  Keeps my E6400 around 19 C even when OCed to 2.7, from 2.13.  At stock speed it is about the same.  On top of that, you can control the fan, I have mine on high all the time.  At one time my CPU temp was only a degree or two (F) above my room temp.

Edit: Right now my CPU tem is 24 C, but my system is in a tight location, with one of the intake fans only about 6 inches from a wall, and the exhaust fan about 6 inches from a table.  Since I had to move it to my bedroom while the in-laws are in for about a week.

Is it loud on high speed?

Nope, I hardly notice a difference when I do not have it on the lowest setting.  When I first set up my system, everyone was surprised how quiet it was.

I sleep with the PC about 2 foot from my bed right now, and do not even notice it.

the max ive ever seen for my old celeron 478 2.8GHz (northwood I think) was 60 under full load, and the case was HAWT. max Ive seen for my old x1600pro agp was 65, games slowed down a lot with that card because of the heat

are you sure your fans are spinning? your computer might just not like overclocking, trust me, I tried overclocking the celeron, it wouldnt OC by 5MHz...

but now, I can overclock this amd64 4000+ by 400++ MHZ

all that looks fine mate you will soon know if you gfx card is getting to hot game will become laggy and stuff starts turning funny colours

71C is nothing for a gfx card if you take a look in your graphics card driver settings you will notice there is a shutdown temp and 71C isnt anywhere neer it you need to get to about 90C for it to become a problem.

also a 7900 and a 7600 are 2 different cards with different coolers on them
