"A U.S. Marine drowned after saving two children who were swimming off Atlantic Beach in North Carolina, the military said."

Not much of a debatable subject, but I feel stories like this deserve recognition, and didn't feel it should be in the "junk drawer."

He deserves recognition for that, it is admirable.

What i find strange but it`s maybe just me ...... if it wasn`t a soldiers but like say a brick layer, would they name his occupation then ?

Or is this just a part of boosting the spirit of the servicemen and the rest of the population ?

That is debatable !

It's a very good point. They probably would name his profession, but it wouldn't be so heavily focused upon. They'd focus on something else. The headline could read "Father of 3 drowns saving two children", or something.

There is certainly nothing to detract from the selflessness of his actions. Good for him and commiseration's to his family.

If your kids can't swim don't let them in the Ocean, and at least not that far out. What the hell man...

R.I.P to that brave man. I hope the parents and the kids who needed to be rescued feel guilty. What a waste.

I'll say it again, if you can't swim don't go fucking around in the ocean. And Parents, teach your kids to swim or don't let them near the place for the safety of themselves and others.

Being able to swim isn`t always enough, and if you read the OP it says the kids where swimming - sudden strong currents can drag a grown man away.

So if you are unsure about the conditions at the beach never let your kids out longer than that the navel (bellybutton) is above water.
