Everyone. Science is getting whored about as much as the media these days.Scorpion0x17 wrote:

what the hell are you talking about?! I'd assume that most of them are government scientists who aren't allowed, by penalty of imprisonment, to say anything about global warming.ReDevilJR wrote:

More than 17,100 basic and applied American scientists, two-thirds with advanced degrees, have signed the Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine's Global Warming Petition, which says in part, "There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gases is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth's atmosphere and disruption of the Earth's climate."

Not trying to start a FLAME war, but rather discuss what's REALLY happening.
I've seen lectures from professors, with advanced degrees, and they say that the majority of scientists (not bounded by contracts with the government and/or oil companies) have signed treaties and other papers stating that Global Climate Change is a concerning issue worth addressing..
Unfortunately, because 99.999% of the people here haven't probably done any actual research on the topic (like scientific research, not reading biased reports), our opinions don't really carry any weight...
Wrong. No matter how much science gets whored about, it's big multi-national corporations that pay for it. Government funding of science is pitifull in most countries.Turquoise wrote:

Agreed... which is why I tend to believe that global warming is connected to our actions. Corporations have it in their best interests to make people believe that it is just a "cycle."Scorpion0x17 wrote:

But corporations also pay the scientists that are telling us that global warming is caused by human activity!Turquoise wrote:

Hmm maybe that's why I believe that it's a cycle because the corporations have brainwashed me, if it gets to warm though I suspect another ice age will ensue in which case we would all be thrown into a 2142 world, shortly followed by a long history of warming again.Turquoise wrote:

I personally think it's a hoax perpetrated by many organizations to make money off of solutions & company's.

Again, most of reality is perception, and people are slow to change their views on things like this. People can believe whatever they want to, but one thing is certain: the world is getting warmer.
The debate isn't in the warming itself but its cause. Given this fact, millions of people will likely die in the next few decades due to the repercussions of global warming, and the lack of a cohesive effort to prepare for the upcoming challenges paints a rather bleak future for humanity....
You view global warming the same way I view the war on terror.TrollmeaT wrote:

Global Warming is a religion...and Al Gore is their prophet.
I cannot for the life of me understand why people think Al Gore is the be-all-and-end-all of global warming. What about the IPCC? What about the rest of the scientific community?

If I was a scientist right now I think it would be pretty easy to get funding to 'study' global warming.
Anyone think maybe its about this as a factor?

You know that this is a online petition right witch anyone can sign and choose his scientist title without having one ?ReDevilJR wrote:

To the point where there is no scientific evidence there actually is, the UN climate panel have beyond resonable doubt proven that greenhouse gases in the atmosphere will within foreseeable future cause a major change in the earths climate.
The ongoing debate is however if the human factor is causing it or not.
Wait behind the line ..............................................................
If everyone comes to a consensus about global warming, then funding into it will drop off. We'll already know the answer, no point paying people to research what we already know. The scientists that are getting the funding are promoting this agreement. The reason that there is so much money is all the people AGAINST the idea of man causing global warming. If it weren't for the crappy, flawed studies that try to show global warming isn't happening / caused by the sun / natural / caused by alien fish monsters that have to be disproved all the time there wouldn't be this large amount of funding.Harmor wrote:

Quite the opposite of what people think, scientists advocating global warming via greenhouse gasses are actively destroying their potential funding.
lol first line made a dig at my uni... you know 8 million for uni of notts is pretty weak. They make like hundreds of millions a year from industry and research.Scorpion0x17 wrote:

Not that i disagree, it is funded by industry, thats how it works...
