This makes no sense. Is he also going to Excommunicate American lawmakers? Is he going to seek out every woman who has had an abortion and excommunicate them also?

There are some crazy predictions that this is "The Last Pope." Dunno - maybe those predictions are right.

Exactly! So, since Abortion is legal in the U.S., and the law was passed by the Government, which was elected by a mjority of the population (well, kind of) - does that mean that the entire U.S. has been excommunicated?

But, it's all OK, becuase when you die the Mormons will baptize you into the Mormon faith, like it or not.

If you read the story, the Pope did not excommunicate anyone. The Bishops in Mexico didn't even excommunicate them. All that was stated was that those lawmakers that were pro choice, and were Catholic, should not receive Communion. The Catholic Churches standing on abortion is that it is a mortal sin and one should not receive Holy Communion while under the throes of a mortal sin as it is considered in the Churches eyes as sacrilege.

Do you guys even know what excommunication is? If you are Catholic, and therefore the only ones affected by excommunication, it does mean your faith is taken away from you. According to the Catholic Church, you can't find God on your own, only through the Church. He's basically sending these people to hell, which they believe in, and of course no one else cares because you aren't Catholic. Of course it seems stupid to all non-Catholics, if you didn't think it was dumb you'd be Catholic.

No, all of the Catholics in the US cannot be excommunicated for what a handful of (Protestant) senators decided decades ago.
Most American politicians are not Catholic and therefore don't care what the Catholic church believes.

Side note: If I'm not mistaken, John Kerry was excommunicated by John Paul II for his active pro-abortion stance in Washington.

Edit: In todays world it is very hard to get excommunicated. The Pope just doesn't disenfranchise people left and right. It takes a lot of consideration. Besides, these people probably get a formal letter asking them to stop what they are doing long before they actually get kicked out.
