It would be nice to know how many people choose [null vote] in these polls.
other.
i get information from many different sources, most biased in one way or another. if you watch the same story on three different networks, you will be able to decide what really went down, for the most part.

Politics is a relatively transparent mess here in Finland. The relevant documentation and minutes of any given governmental decision are easily obtainable, in most cases.sergeriver wrote:

Then again, as a consequence, important deals tend to be agreed in informal meetings where minutes are not kept.

The proles are woefully poorly informed. Why? Because they don't care. As long as they have their trashy tabloids, tins of beer and food a dietician wouldn't approve of then they couldn't give a flying fuck. They'll suck whatever shit gets beamed into the ether into the holes in their skulls and regurgitate it verbatim.
The middle class is the only hope in terms of keeping politicians honest.

No, because of analogies. Everyone tries to use analogies to explain phenomena in life, particularly politics. While these analogies seem logical because the analogous object or event shares some set of characteristics with the actual event, we forget that we cannot extend these analogies. The most common seems to be the personification of the modern nationstate. Laypeople, and likely politicians as well, often make assumptions regarding international politics based on the thought that each nation is a person. They often assume nations have the same motivations as people, such as revenge. However, the nationstate is driven by and entirely different and complicated set of incentives based on the individual incentives of those who run the state. States do not feel emotions such as remorse or anger, they simply safegaurd the economic interests of those who govern. Because of this very same analogy, many people these days do not understand that the only methods the people have to control a government are through the manipulation of incentives or revolution.
Analogies are the reason so many people do not understand politics.

I think he means proletariat. But it seems he is describing the Bourgeois more...ghettoperson wrote:

You will NEVER know the 100% total truth about anything political. So we are not even close to being informed.
I feel the same way. Politicians are actors and we buy their story, and then after a few years we learn that the story they told was different.usmarine2005 wrote:

People, especially the youth, are completely oblivious to anything political here. It's ridiculous. I've had to correct teachers before because they said something stupid about politics. Just the other day, we watched a movie about the creation of Texas/the Alamo sort of movie, and one girl asked if we were still enemies with Mexico. And a couple months ago, my Spanish teacher (he's also social studies) had to explain to the class how our electoral process works.

I had to correct my 10th grade AP American History teacher when she said slavery was abolished with the ratification of the 14th Amendment (13th) and that Rhodesia is known now as Zimbabwe (she was an American history teacher though).Homeschtar wrote:
