US Aircraft choice by DICE?

I couldn't find this in the forum search but I always wondered why they chose the F-35, when at that time was just a prototype during BF2 Development, and not the F-22 Raptor which was already in production December 2005.

I ask this because my uncle, whom is a colonel for the air force and flight trainer for the Raptor, asked me this when his son started playing this game. According to him the Raptor should fly circles around any jet out there at this time, and also take into consideration that we as the public do not have the true accurate data on the capabilities of the jet as he does. When asked he just told me no with a straight face. The F-35 was designed as lighter version of the Raptor with more versatile configurations for the different branches of the military. Again his input.

Did DICE think the Raptor would be to powerful for USMC players?

It would be pretty pointless playing on the other team if the Raptor was in the game.

You could just face the Island on Wake and engage targets from there.

The Raptor would be awesome, but I don't think the USMC are going to use it, I think its just the air force. I could be wrong though.

I believe they wanted to stay with what vehicles a said faction had. The Raptor, to the best of my knowledge, is an Air Force only fighter. Whereas the F-35B is for the Marines. Although I don't know if the Marines use the F-15. Sure it would be nice to have a Raptor but they would have to nerf it down too much.

You are correct. Plus the f35 is a JSF for all armed forces where the f22 is the replacement for the f15. Its too bad the f35 doesnt have the same hitboxes as the f18. there would be some awsome dogfights if so.

When I said USMC, I mean the team in the game, the Raptor is an Air Force only jet at this time. Where the F-35 is a Joint Strike Fighter for both US and United Kingdom.

The Raptor has the ability to lock on and fire all missiles even before you noticed it in the air at all. The one scenario that the Air Force ran was 10 F-16's where to take down 1 Raptor in a simulated dog fight. The F-16's hadn't even had time to get their bearings on the Raptor when they all got Kill Msg's. The Raptor had already locked on and fired with out them knowing. Part of the stealth capability of the Raptor. My first response was holy shit. And again this is just the data we are allowed to know. I am really curious as to the full potential of the Jet.

No - no bashing from me, I am just going off of first hand information from the flight trainer. Not sure how the scenario was ran but that is all he would tell me.

Though I am curious as to what Jet you believe to be superior?

1. the USMC don't fly the F-22, Air Force does
2. The whole game would be kinda pointless with 1 undetectable plane raining death onto everything that moved without a real chance of taking it down

Shenyang J-XX, perhaps broken down into the J-14 and J-12.
The Russian PAK FA, not many details as of yet.

X-32 was pitted against the F-35 as part of the JSF program so that one is now /fail
MiG 1.44 is experimental and no one put the project managers know if there is a prototype out
YF-23 was going to be the next fighter for the USAF but they chose the YF-22 instead, which became the F-22 Raptor, and the YF-23 had poorer space in its weapons bay, and was only to carry 2 AIM-9s.
the X-36 is a research craft

The J-XX is still on the drawing board
The PAK FA is a crossbreed between the Su-47 Berkut and the MiG 1.44 and hasnt reached the production stage, let alone prototype stage
The KFX is not even close to prototype stage.

Eurofighter is not the best combat jet, the F-22 is. F-22 has superior stealth technology and superior avionics, plus a larger payload, Eurofighter can carry up to 51,000 pounds for a maximum takeoff weight compared to the Raptors 80,000 pounds.

that´s the point. dice didn´t choose the weapon systems, that are really in use and did a miserable job in implementing the weapons they did.
the eurofighter sucks, the a10 sucks, the f35 sucks and so on.. would be more fun, if they would have made those systems more realistic in their power...

F-35 is not a lighter "version" of the F-22, it's a totally different platform with different roles. Besides, to my knowledge, the F-22 is not a carrier capable aircraft. Give Dice some credit, they looked at the capabilities and "realistic" content of where these jets fit in amongst the militaries presented in the game. Just be thankfull that they didn't put in the Harrier over the F-35. Then you'd have to gripe about its slow speed as well as crappy handling vs the J-10.

As for Euroforces, Dice could have easily given us the French Rafale as well as the venerable Tornado. That would have been a sweet addition. It would also have been nice to see an Osprey thrown into the Armored Fury mix.

F-35B he said has pretty much the same capabilities as the Raptor, so this wouldn't be true. Of course they'd BALANCE it and not include Beyond Visual Range missiles and things.

I guess lighter version was the wrong word there, I should of used variant of the platform used to design both the F-22 and F-35. The F-35 did derive from the F-22's basic design scheme in an effort to make a stealth fighter multi functional for the different branches of the armed forces. And I think you are correct about the carrier status, I've never heard of or seen an F-22 launch from a carrier.
