Hey guys, my brother is going to be buying a HP dv6304TX laptop in the next few weeks. First of all, what are the specs like in relation to playing games (which he mainly won't be doing...) For the ease of saving space, I won't post the specs. They can be found here.

Another question is of networking. He wants to be able to connect his laptop with the family (... lol) PC. It's nothing fancy - P4 3Ghz, 9800pro graphics card, 3GB DDR400 RAM (). We have an ADSL2+ connection with a modem that only has one port.

How should I go about networking the two computers? Get a new modem with 2+ ports/IEEE 802.11? Would that allow file sharing between the computers as well as ADSL access for both?

As for performance gaming you may be able to run BF2 on Low graphics settings. Look at a desktop if you what to game.

As for the home networking all you need is a Cable/DSL Wireless 4 port-router.

Cheap reliable router is  Linksys

Buy your stuff at Newegg.com best prices anywere. Just built my 4th machine with parts all bought at Newegg.

a 4 port + wifi ADSL modem & router are always a good thing to have. Maybe your ISP will even give you one for free. They usually do here. Alternatively you can get just a normal network hub, connect it to you PC and allow other PCs on the network to access the PCs internet connection. He will only be able to go online when the desktop is on though.
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Thanks for the input. I'll have a look at the 4-port modem option from my ISP and see if they can do a trade in or something for the 1-port modem.

Neg. That doesn't happen here.

Just get one from MSY. Preferably Linksys and preferably 802.11n (if you're going wireless).

Alternatively you could buy a 8-port Switch for $30 or 4-port WAP for about $70 (though if you're spending that you may as well get a new ADSL2+ router.

* I know very well the difference between a Switch and Hub. The point of linking was for the purty pictures.

First of all, nice choice of laptop. My brother has the DV6000 as far as I know and it is absolutely fantastic. The graphics (same) play HL2 on high and the widescreen monitor is very clear.

A hub or a new router would suffice.
