OK guys, the plan is this: to send up a small, disposable rocket with a payload of 10 tons of sulfur into the stratosphere. The rocket should be simple in design and cheap, kinda like a V2.

So what I'm trying to find out is how much solid rocket fuel costs? A V2 rocket costs approximately US$650000 in today's terms, but what about the fuel? Anyone have any ideas?

Easy. Make a HUGE bottle, fill with water and then footpump it into the stratosphere.

You may need one heck of a big pump.

For 10 tons of sulfur? I forgot to mention, but we need to send up approximately 1-2 Tg (10^12 grams) of this stuff.

You want to put 10 tons of sulphur into the stratosphere?

AWESOME!!!

BTW I have no idea how much it costs.

It will cost you quite a bit. What kind of fuel are you looking for? Plane fuel?

why do you want to disperse 10 tons of sulfur 6-19 miles into the atmosphere?

he said he wants to use a solid fuel rocket.  usually consists of an oxidizer, a fuel and a binder.

OK, to fill everyone in, the goal is to put enough sulfur into the atmosphere such that when it forms sulfate particulates, it can increase the albedo (the reflectivity) of the earth so less infra-red falls onto the surface of the earth. It has been found that putting 1-2 Tg of sulfur into the atmosphere can decrease global temperatures or just stop their growing trend.

Or maybe I just want to cause a global respiratory disease epidemic

Get in contact with Top Gear. They put a 3-wheeled Reliant Robin van up there somewhere - before it failed to detatch from the main pod and fell back to earth

Make sure you video it - be awesome!! And I have no idea how to btw

rent yourself an SR-71 blackbird.  It has a cruising altitude of ~80,000 ft., the upper level of the stratosphere.

and scientists have found that clear cutting timber in northern hemispheres  will also help aleviate global temperatures because ground coverered in snow reflects more light than trees.

Lets cut down the trees and shoot sulfur into the stratosphere! Woohoo!
