Also which decent, not expensive Motherboard will the best out of the 3 fit?

Or if there is any better ram (Corsair, OCZ etc) for the same priceish.

Cheers

The first one is pretty much the same as the second one - it's rather a slower clocked setting with tougher timings - you could well clock the DDR2-800 also to 1066+ level with CL5, especially because it's crucial ballistix

While another is the fastest, you'll only ever use this. Save some cash and buy that, it's the most you'll use because most motherboards don't support PC2-8000.

So its very overclockable?

also which mobo could it fit then? the mobo needs to be a good OC'er aswell

so its only the most expensive mobos that support it then

Pretty much, yes. You'll only use PC2-6400 for quite a while yet so save some cash and just get the PC2-6400. Spend the extra cash on some cooling or something.

The fact that you are buying DDR2 means that you are either on a Core 2 Duo or AMD AM2 Setup, which is it so I can get you a few links?

Well I got my new pc for free as my old one broke and I got a free replacement.
I have 2 x 512mb DDR2 RAM 4200 553MHz

And I have a Intel viiv Pentium D 3.0Ghz. It is dual core but not core 2 Duo.

So not everyone will have a core 2 duo set up.

Is it worth changing over to Core 2 Duo?? Because I think my proccessor is fine but evveryone is buying Core 2 Duo procesors. Is it worth me changing over??

definatly. a you can get an e6300 for £100 now. and thats alot better than your Pentium D

But my speed at the moment is 3.0Ghz
Surely going down to a 1.83Ghz will be slower??

hmm......At the moment though it isn't my priority cos my speed is perfect at the moment. I need to get an extra 1gb of RAM. Cos I have vista and playing bf2 with 1gb isn't all that smooth. It can run a lot more smoother.

Processor speed does not matter. The C2D line are on 65nm architecture (I typed 45 there, I wish!) - a 1.83GHz C2D will outperform a 3GHz Pentium, definetely. As for the RAM, yes you should upgrade. However, it is stupid NOT to upgrade to Core 2 Duo at the minute.

If you want something cheap, the Gigabyte 965P-DS3 has to be your choice, otherwise DS3P or DS4 for a mid-range mobo. If you don't plan on getting SLI or anything alike, there's absolutely no need for any better (and it's questionable if there is any better atm) than the P965-chipset.

Again, this is just the same RAM - one time it's DDR2-800 at CL4 and the other time it's DDR2-1066 at CL5 (just different standard settings). Crucial Ballistix use Micron D9 that clock easily to 1066 MHz and more.

I need your processor and graphics card specifications (before I can recommend you a board)

Edit: and a budget?

Well yes, but he might have an AMD AM2 setup. All we know is that it uses DDR2 RAM.

IIRC he doesn't have it yet, but he is building a C2D rig.

Something like an Asus P5N-E SLi would be good, which as it happens is what I'm getting. They're also easier to OC than the 965p chipset.
