Isn't it possible to determine ones country based on your IP address?  It should run a little connectivity test, capture the IP, then populate the country automatically.

i'm russian, but live in the USA...I, too, did not notice when registering or installing BF2 the option to change countries...I wanted a russian flag, but now i'm stuck with US...hope Mother Russia will forgive me...

Id say your pretty fucked "ilyandor" unless you fix that pronto, those guys at SVR (Is that what the KGB replacement called?) wont be happy!! lol

If you're a programmer then you should understand that some databases rely on core pieces of information to keep things in order. Wow, I think you're giving them a lot more credit than they rightly deserve. THe ONLY aspect of the database that is locked down are the PID numbers. You think that Player names are supposed to be unique too, but I've been able to find duplicate player names with different PID's many times in the past.

Additionally, the only time that your country code would be useful is when determining what servers to query, or which account server to connect to -- but as far as I know, there's only ONE account server, and when you query for playable servers, it just dumps the world at your feet.

The idea that you can change neither your name, nor country, nor ANYTHING about your account is complete and utter bullshit. Has been since the inception of the game, and when I spoke with the CREATORS OF THE GAME (both EA and DICE) and mentioned it, the reaction from both was the same: "Yeahh......"

Would be more accurate that trusting people to change a default drop down, apparently. But proxies, etc would confuse a system like that (not that proxies should really matter when connecting to a game server...)

So there you have it, you can just log into gamespy now and update your profile off their site. I just updated mine and I'm waiting to see if it changes.

can you just login wit you bf2 account there? or do you have to do something else?

Actually I thought I was giving them less credit than they deserve. I figured they may have done something half-assed in creating the database that caused other information besides the PID to be locked.

My point was that in programming one often needs to perform a simple task that ends up being a grueling trudge through mountains of badly written and barely commented code. Just saying that while it may seem like a simple thing from our end there could be some really great or really stupid reason why they won't or can't allow us to change the countries.

Or they could just be douchebags.
