It certainly was 800yrs. Am I a knacker too because I'm from dublin? In that case, you're from the north so you're a prod.

This is the answer from EA support.
Did you select a country while creating the account? The default is United States.
Once you created an account and all the info that goes in it, it cannot be changed and it cannot be deleted either. You can only try to create a new account but that means you will have to start anew. You will lose your stats, rank, awards and weapons unlocked. I'm sorry.
Dude read the comments. We jsut found out that it can be changed if you send a load of information to EA! see the last comment on page 1!?gblanco wrote:

Isn't it possible to determine ones country based on your IP address? It should run a little connectivity test, capture the IP, then populate the country automatically.
I know about the comments.MarkyMark wrote:

They told me they can't change anything yesterday.
Then what ?
They changed the process today ?
It was a fairly obvious pisstake, i doubt he meant it.wayneakagod wrote:

Hmmm I didn't use a credit card to create my account...
It was a stupid idea from the programmers to set usa as default country, normally when u have to choose from such a list there is no default setting and you are not able to create your account till u chose a country... silly programmers....
When I created my account I had to try ca. 6 different nicknames, because I always got: your name already exists, or: the symbols u used are not possible... and I'm sure that I first selected germany as my country, but it was set to default after the failed tries... fucking shit, I want black/red/gold
@ xultimax: Plz tell us here when u had success!!

Yeah didnt they take into account defectors. Crazed Russian scientiests that defect to Iran, North Korea or China and want to take there stats along with there valuable research on flying monkeys, its so crap.
Maybe its just EA's contribution to stopping defections.........

Wow, I think you're giving them a lot more credit than they rightly deserve. THe ONLY aspect of the database that is locked down are the PID numbers. You think that Player names are supposed to be unique too, but I've been able to find duplicate player names with different PID's many times in the past.FeloniousMonk wrote:
If you're a programmer then you should understand that some databases rely on core pieces of information to keep things in order. They may be using the country codes to designate certain aspects of the database; they may even assume that people are connecting from the countries they select and thus do their best to optimize the database to suit connections from other nations. The country codes may be pieces of the database that can't be changed without altering every parameter of the account.gblanco wrote:
I agree, I am a programmer and I can't understand how a simple change of country could not be done.
Additionally, the only time that your country code would be useful is when determining what servers to query, or which account server to connect to -- but as far as I know, there's only ONE account server, and when you query for playable servers, it just dumps the world at your feet.
The idea that you can change neither your name, nor country, nor ANYTHING about your account is complete and utter bullshit. Has been since the inception of the game, and when I spoke with the CREATORS OF THE GAME (both EA and DICE) and mentioned it, the reaction from both was the same: "Yeahh......"
Would be more accurate that trusting people to change a default drop down, apparently. But proxies, etc would confuse a system like that (not that proxies should really matter when connecting to a game server...)birdman69 wrote:

Well it looks liked they set it up for you to be able to update your profile through gamespy. This was their reply after I sent them all my information:
Hi,
Thank you for writing back to Electronic Arts.
In order to update/edit your ingame profile please visit gamespyid.com login to site using your E-mail and password and you should then be able to update your profile.
If there is anything else I can help you with please let me know.
Thank you,
Khazan Singh

So there you have it, you can just log into gamespy now and update your profile off their site. I just updated mine and I'm waiting to see if it changes.

My bf2 account worked, I'm not sure if by sending them all my info in the email made them set it up this way just for me or if everyone can do this, you'll have to try. If not then I guess just send them a message in their customer support like I did.[DEI]Bart wrote:

Actually I thought I was giving them less credit than they deserve. I figured they may have done something half-assed in creating the database that caused other information besides the PID to be locked.chuyskywalker wrote:

My point was that in programming one often needs to perform a simple task that ends up being a grueling trudge through mountains of badly written and barely commented code. Just saying that while it may seem like a simple thing from our end there could be some really great or really stupid reason why they won't or can't allow us to change the countries.
Or they could just be douchebags.
Hmmm I tried to change my country flag about 2 months ago by changing my accountinformation (BF2 account) at gamespy but it didn't work...
