Okay is it worth to pay the extra 100.00 dollars?

I am thinking about the same question, but I think I am going for 6700.

If you have the money, go for it. If you don't, it's really not necessary. I've got a friend with an E6600 and I know many people here have it, but it's honestly not worth it if you don't have a lot of cash flow going.

I would have said that it wouldn't make a huge difference unless you're looking for minute differences.

E6600 is pretty gd tbh, 4MB of L2 cache can't go wrong

actually...i read this article that if you get the 6300...you can over clock it to run like a 6600....and you save yourself alot of money...i think thats the route im gonna go this summer....once i graduate. here is the article:

i have an e6600 and i can overclock it better than my cousins e6700 but then again e4300 is the crazy overclocker in the family, so if i were u i would go for the e4300 or the e6600, and with that extra hundred dollars buy a cooling kit and happy overclocking

I am leaning towards the E6600, just to overclock slightly and save $100.00.  But I will wait for some more advice.

You guys answered my questions as well. I have been trying to find a good new CPU that isn't 1,000 dollars or 500. I'm also looking into the E6600 and E6700, and I have to say I will go with the E6600 or MAYBE MAYBE MAYBE (BIG 'IF') I have enough money by the end of the summer I will buy a quad-core Q6600 CPU.

P.S: Should I buy a ZALMAN blue LED CPU cooler instead of have the stock heatsink? Do they lower temperatures a lot?

if you don't want to blow the extra 100 ...

I ended up getting the 6700, because I think at the time there was not of a price difference between the two.

6600 certainly, the gain from the 6700 is hardly worth it imo.

You would be better of putting that 100 bucks into a nicer chipset/mobo.

I am already getting

EVGA 8800GTX
EVGA 680i SLI ATX mobo
Kingston HyperX 2x1GB DDR2 800 RAM
E6600 or Q6600 processor

If you are using a 680i then definitely no. Maybe a better H/S.

If you have any overclocking experience whatsoever, go for the E6600.
If not, and you do want the E6700 for whatever reasons, go for the E6700.

Even if you don't have any overclocking experience it's really hard to burn C2D. Just rise FSB until your sistem doesn't boot anymore. When It does, you can lower the FSB or rise the vcore voltage and proceed with OCing.
I run my 6320 @ 3.7 GHz.
Go for the 6600. No question about that.

E6700 is pointless... Get an E6600 and overclock it. If you get a C2D and don't overclock you are retarded.

Surely you can just overclock the E6700 the same amount as you can the E6600 so the E6700 will still be running faster?

For example If you oc'ed them both by 0.4GHz the E6700 will go from 2.6 - 3 and the E6600 will go from 2.4 - 2.8.

So the E6700 is still better...

Thanks for the help everyone.  I am going E6600.  Put the $100 towards DX10 card.

I heard the E6300 OCs like crazy.  If you know how to OC, then go for the E6300.

Kmarion would my Intel Pentium D 2.66gHZ be good with the 680i?

I think the E6600 is pointless now that the E6420 is out.

get the E6420, and spend the extra cash on an uber cooling system, the e6600 is still better at stock than the 6420 though

EDIT: the 6420 is a revision/better core, intel went out of their way and fixed some power problems (consumes less power I think?) and other things

Not compared to a C2d.
