Yes. I wanted to turn the tag into a symbol of an elite CADre, but it wouldn't work for accounts made without the tag.[Hive]-Twist wrote:

I've seen (GER) quite a few times. Does it refer to Germany? Because if so, it's ironic that they would use someone else's name for their country in a patriotic expression about their country. I always wondered why German players wouldn't use (DE) instead of (GER).
IOC country codes and ISO country codes are two different cups of tea.
CAD = Canadian Dollar.
Although, I still don't know why CDN is also an abbrevation for Canada. I especially know that one from many TV program guides.

I have an interesting question about this. I feel like a country tag could be cool, but I'm from the USA, and although I love my country, I detest what the current administration is doing both in foreign dealings and domestically. If you saw a player with a [USA] tag, would you also assume they supported the Iraq War and other US ventures?
I know that if I saw someone with a [USA] tag, i would most likely assume they took pride in fighting for their country, which is not something I would do because although I support the soldiers, i don't support the war.
Interesting question, i know. Too D+ST for this topic, but it would be interesting to see if a patriotic american is viewed differently than a patriotic [insert european country here].

Hell, it's in my name. Well, it's not my country but it's my region.
I "support" my country but there is no need for me to have it in my name and if I did I would probably feel pressured to do well encase some idiot related my poor game play to everyone in my country.
I see FIN quite a lot.
I never really see [US] or [USA]...But I think most of the time they're just trying to get the name they want. Say the name "Namehere" is taken. So, they just put their countries name in. "[GER]Namehere" It shows patriotism and it gets you the name you want.

So*Cal and Nor*Cal I see somtimes.
i had [swe] before but now just my clan tag
i play with 0311 because thats my MOS in the USMC
The sole reason for having your country as a tag name is to let other players know what language you speak. If i join a server and find someone using [SWE] i always join their squad. Then you know you can use swedish in the VOIP, which makes things much more easy.
I put (CAN) in front of mine cause of three reasons: 1) Name was taken, needed to modify it, 2) Supporting my country., 3) So ppl won't ask me where i am from/what language I speak
Later on, I realized that many ppl joined my squad coz they were Canadian too...
Most popular one is definitely (GER). Dunno why..
