Okay well, I have basically swapped out every single part of my computer BESIDES the HDD, over the three years I have owned it. It's a western digital noname ata100 IDE 120gb (111gb total) 2mb buffer,

would upgrading to a 16mb cache seagate/a newer WD 16mb improve performance in a lot of games?

(amd64 4000+ OC'd to 2.6ghz
1.5gb ram (planning to go dual channel same type 2gb)
x1950pro PCIe
mentioned HDD)

sorry for my recent spam? of the tech boards, it's just you peeps are more knowledgeable then some sites i've seen -_-

You would notice a difference, but it wouldn't be that much. I do recommend Seagate 16MB Cache drives, they are fast and reliable!

There's no "possibility" about it. Hard drives bottleneck every modern rig.

Yeah, it will be. What unnamednewbie said is correct, but a SATA HDD would be faster.

What you want to look at is the cache size, and the read/write speeds. This is where you'll see improvement. The Raptor is probably the fastest for read/write speeds, but they are expensive.

I'd recommend Seagate. They are both fast and very reliable.
