My freidns computer is having problems booting....

CPU) Intel Pentium 4 2.0Ghz
MOBO) ASROCK M266A
RAM) 256mb PC2100 RAM
Grahpics) Onboard
HD) Excel Star 60Gb IDE
OS) Windows 2003 Server - All Latest Updates

Problem....

You turn on the computer, All fans spin, the HD spins up, and thats it.... Monitor doesn't come to life, and no beep messages.

What I have tried....

1) Tried a different HD- still doesnt work
2) Tried a different RAM stick- still doesn't work
3) Different monitor- still doesn't come to life
4) Taken the CPU out and looked at the pins- 2 are missing (as in... solder is there, but no pins), and another 2 pins were bent....

He then tells me he took the computer apart to clean it, and it now doesn't boot......

CPU or Motherboard im thinking?

There could be numerous things here. Ensure that all cables are plugged in correctly and plugged in where they are meant to be. Check the monitor also, you could very well be getting an error but the monitor has died so it cannot display anything. Make sure that everything is the way it is meant to be - Power buttons into Power sockets etc.

All cables are plugged in
I have tried a different monitor
As he took apart the computer.... he also removed all the little cables that are the speaker etc... which may indicate he put it in the wrong way, which is why i am not getting a beep.... I will check once i find a place on the internet that tells me where it is supposed to be- the motherboard writing inst clear enough.

Check the IDE cables are correct i.e. pin 1 (stripe) is correct in drive and MB.

Check power. Unplug Floppy and IDE cables. Switch the machine on. Does it boot. If so plug in one at a time. If not remove Cards. Try again etc.

How did everyone except for one person not notice that he said

"Taken the CPU out and looked at the pins- 2 are missing (as in... solder is there, but no pins), and another 2 pins were bent...."

CPU will NOT work with bent or broken pins
