I have tried that exact program to force 60hz and 75hz and no effect.
The monitor I have ALWAYS used is simply plug n play. I have NEVER used monitor drivers.
Right now, I just want to get BF2 working again. I dont even CARE about the booster packs anymore. It was only 20 bucks at EBgames for that disc. I have completely purged my system of anything BF2 related. Then installed BF2 and then the 1.4 patch to no effect.

Again - My advised to you is to download that file i mentioned or replace/upgrade your monitor drivers. We can't help you if you refused new idea's. This exact problem happened to a good friend of mine. As soon as i bought over my monitor everything work again. I simply installed the latest viewsonic drivers.

Whats the make/model of the monitor and system board?

If the above dosnt work. Try this:
reset your system bios

What windows are you using? because if it's vista just get back to XP and your problems will magically disappear.

Im using XP Pro 32bit SP2.
Im using a Tyris monitor. Not sure the model number. but its 19in. Explain to me why BF2 and all my games have worked perfectly on this monitor before but after installing the booster pack combo BFs refuses to work at all. I really dont feel like having ANOTHER icon in my taskbar. (all drivers these days have their own little program) I have forced the refresh to both 60 and 75hz to no effect.
I did run smart buster. It didnt fix the problem.

COMPLETELY delete BF2 from the system. Else after all attemps given by other people I would say throw a back up of windows on your system and try it again.

Try uninstalling EA Link.... (I take it you would have had to install this to get the booster packs).... and it would be one of the programs that intefere with BF2 starting up

I still can't believe that this problem still appears are manually reinstalling BF2, undating all you drivers etc etc.....

I guess if that doesn't help it, nothing short of a reformat will solve your problem.

actually, I didnt install EA link until after I had the problem in a hope that it would fix the booster packs or something. I bought the booster packs in a brick and mortar store.

What's it do when you only install BF2, no patches, etc?

Perfect solution: format harddrive, it might take some time, but its faster then waiting here for a good answer...

There's your problem - you should have bought it from a computer games store! Ho Ho!

More seriously, a few things to try before you reinstall windows:

1. Check your ram with memtest86 - http://www.memtest86.com/
2. Check your DirectX install with DXDiag - Start->Run... type 'dxdiag' (without the 's) hit enter, click Yes, click Next Page, click Next Page, click Test DirectDraw... wait for that to finish (and follow any prompts) then click Test Direct3D... wait for that to finish (and follow any prompts) - you might also want to run the sound and music tests (next two tabs along).
3. Check your video card with 3DMark - http://www.futuremark.com/
4. Make sure you've got all the latest drivers for your PC - mobo, video, sound, everything.

OK I have not done a memory test since I built the computer. The only problem with my memory is that the timings have never been what the store advertised. But thats OK because its plenty fast enough and its never caused any problems.
I actually did the DX tests and it gave me a "test cancelled b/c you pressed a button" error. Apparently, a LOT of people have this problem. I attempted to reinstall DirectX and could not find an easy download on MS site. It looks like they are requiring an activated copy of windows or something. Lol, does anyone actually have "REAL" copies of windows anymore?
anyway, I have a 8800GTX that performed very well. It was like a 13,000 or something on 3Dmark... forgot the version.

Trust me, every single driver is fully updated.

The game worked fine, I didnt change ANYTHING except for trying to instal the booster packs.

Yes, I have a legitimate, legal, copy of Windows XP.

Anyhoo. Test your memory.

BF2 was working just fine. Then suddenly it started doing that thing where it minimizes but you can bring it back up the menu is just messed up a little. Now, it wont start up at all. It starts, minimizes, and you cant bring it back up. It eats my mouse too. I have to use taskmanager to kill bf2.exe
If it makes a difference it only went THIS far after I installed the booster packs, which I bought today.
also, I already uninstalled everything then reinstalled. I ended backgroud processes, turned off AV etc.
its a good thing that Bf2 does not start. trust me you dont want to play this game anymore,  by not playing this game you are adding 10 years to your life

Have you tried rolling back any drivers? Back when I had a crappy ATI video card I had problems with the latest drivers and had to use out-of-date ones. I don't think I've ever had a problem with the latest Nvidia drivers, but it seems possible.

And have you tried enabling lots of Windows services? I know disabling them frees up resources but is it possible that you've disabled something indirectly necessary for BF2 to run?

I know how you feel, I've been there--just want to play, it's not much to ask. Reinstalling Windows sounds like a good idea, even though it really sucks.

Like I said, I didnt make any system changes. I tried to install the booster packs and it stopped working. Strangely, even after purging my system of anything BF2 related, the problem persists. I suppose I will just have to reinstall the OS to get it working again. I think I will take this opportunity to upgrade to vista though. 2 different sources cite that BF2 works fine so long as you run in admin mode and I have a DirectX10 card and two games that support it. So there is some benefit there. I will do this in a few days unless someone else has a suggestion to fix my problem.

I would suggest not upgrading to Vista until you've figured out what the problem is.

I gotta say, Ive had much better luck with ATi stuff in the past and with nvidia. I went ahead and took the opportunity to upgrade to vista and now everything works, albeit with a substantial performance hit.
