Another thing: Maybe this people didn't help because they feared the probability of the robber having a gun. Also a typical American problem.
I guess that is what makes people different. I for one would not give a fuck what he had and would do what I could. Chances are just because he has one, doesn't mean he knows how to use it when someone is attacking him.
Atleast in Finland the legal system can annul charges, if the 'criminal' act was done to prevent a bigger vrime from happening. ie. you could have beaten that guy who stole the car in Finland and would have gotten thanks instead of going to prison.

That would actually be about the only reason for me not to step in. This might sound racist, but I can imagine if people see a black ghetto type dude trying to steal a car, they assume he's also got a gun.

I remember a car accident here, an taxi driver saw a car wich had crashed into a wall and he helped the girl inside the car into his taxi. Then the ambulance came and saw that she had someting wrong in her neck. They sawed of the roof on the cab and lifted her out, then it was a biiig trial if the taxi driver had to pay the damages on his car himself. Actualy he didnt get to pay it himself but, WHY EVEN TRY IT? Punish someone for helping another? What a world.

Why was the taxi driver lifting her out if there were ambulance people there?

Trying to help a wounded person without having a First Aid certificate is a punishable offense here. The law is like: "If you don't know what you're doing, don't try to fucking help. Just stand there and watch while the victim bleeds to death, or something." Actually, I don't know if it's a criminal offense, but if you try to help someone and they die because you didn't do the exact right thing, you can go to jail for manslaughter.

When I was five years old I was eating breakfast when my neighbor's wife starting screaming really loud. My neighbor was at work and we all knew the lady was alone. Before I knew it my dad grabbed a stick jumped the fence and ran into my neighbors house chasing the would be robber/rapist/murderer away. He didn't say a word, just grabbed would ever he had around and jumped into action. I think thats what the OP is trying to gauge. BTW, my dad is a vietnam vet so maybe that contributed. Anyways, the way I was raised I would have ran to the scene and did what I could to help. And for everyone else that would not have; you're all a bunch of pussies!!

Actually we have a law called the good samaritan law. It says that if you administer aid to someone and that person ends up dead or injured you can't be at fault unless you did something stupid like try to perform a tracheotomy with a pocket knife and pen.
Yeah if I knew some badass martial arts or had a gun I would hopefully have intervened. It is a shame that noone stepped in, but I could see why someone would be afraid of getting shot/stabbed or getting legal ramifications for stepping in when others don't do shit.
Ive noticed that black people are definitely more violent, and just like what fancy posted, is what mlk did, backfiring?
Last weekend we had the Valley of flowers, which is a pretty big carnival, and there was probably 2 fights and another kid that i just met this weekend, got hit in the face with a baseball bat by some black person.
While the next week we have a Parish picnic at my church(Basically a carnival), with almost just as many people, minus the black people, and guess what, no fights.
I'm not saying that I hate all black people, because I play basketball and I've got to know some of them and they're really kool, but it just seems to me that they have no respect for anyone they don't know.
You can't honestly compare a church outing with a public carnival.
...oh wait, you just tried to.
A church outing?, you dont live around here, and its not a church outing, its a public carnival, exactly what you said, you dont have to go to the church to go to the carnival....
its the exact same thing, same rides, same games, theres the same pot heads there

Just no black people.
Pot heads don't start fights for a start, and why are there no black people there? Does your church lynch black people or something?

maybe
Btw, pot heads dont start fights? lol, here's a video of 2 potheads that were up there that fought (not there, at a park near my house.)
lol i dunno, let me go ask one of my black friends on myspace and ill get back to you.
Her exact words, "great question..itsz` lame lol"
Oh an btw, the fight kinda sucks, so i wouldnt waste my time watching it.
as to the OP, they probably didnt want to be sued by the robber or they were pussy's.
If it was on camera, the people who were to attack the theif would have been sued themselves. Thats the brilliance of the justice system - even the criminals can get their would-be preventers put behind bars.

The entire system is totally fucked up.
He wouldn't win in FL. Shit, I may have been able to shoot him down here.

Don't you have this kind of system in the USA?
We do...sort of. It all depends on the judge in most cases. Unfortunately it comes down to a personal viewpoint, not the law.
Its a sociology thing. I don't know the specific terms and all but that 91-year old man had a better chance of being saved if it was just one witness. In a large group of watchers, his chances of being saved dwindles, as a likelyhood for a single individual to break from the group of watchers to help the person becomes less as more people are added to the "watcher" group. However, if one person does decide to jump in and save the guy, his chances are highten, and more likely cause a chain reaction of more people from the group of watchers to jump in and help.
The reverse effect is true. For example, if you saw a bridge that looks shady and would break if you cross it, if you were a lone, you're more likely not use the bridge. However, if a group of people decide to cross the bridge, you're more likely to disreguard your better judgement and cross the bridge with the group of people.
