Well, that still depends on the manufacturer and the BIOS he uses. Gigabyte offers very good OC options - as far as Asus is concerned, you will of course suffer from a great undervolting on the 965 chipsets.ghettoperson wrote:

Something like an Asus P5N-E SLi would be good, which as it happens is what I'm getting. They're also easier to OC than the 965p chipset.
The Asus has a 650i chipset, however from what I have heard it does suffer considerably from undervolting. I am somewhat reconsidering getting it. It's either the DS3, or perhaps that DFI RD600 board.Stormscythe wrote:

So what mobo do you say is best lol
I don't know anymore. I thought I used it, but after reading on various forums about them they all seem problem stricken.
Scott, read Fancy's thread here on cheap stuff to get. It's a decent board anyway, even if you have more money.
Hows this?

ill sort things out regarding case, HDD

Looks good. Is that board a DS3 though? It doesn't seem to specify it in the title.
I'm doing the same thing - well getting a core 2 duo + new mobo and RAM.
I asked a similar question so I'll add in the advice I got from these 4-UM's <-- lol
Just to put it in context, I'm getting:
- Intel Core 2 Duo E6700
- Gigabyte GA_965P_DQ6 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 - supposedly this is good for overclocking and supports the DDR2 800 RAM.
-OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-6400C4 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 XTC Series DDR2 - for the RAM I got the same advice as you....no point and not cost effective to buy the 8000+ RAM (opposed to 6400) and you would also need a much pricier motherboard.
Hope this helps!
* anyone correct/advise me if I've said something wrong!*

James, get the Crucial Ballistix RAM that Scott's getting. It's better than the OCZ.
Don't know much about the different varients of Gigabytes 965p series, sorry.

Is it worth the extra 20 ish quid?
edit: ok, its an extra £35 but they have the same timings and speed, aren't they the main points to consider?

Also i had a look today and i can get it all for £460
That's the DS3, dunno if it's the same one you posted before
EDIT: Other than that, looks very good; very similar to what I'll be building up in a month or two. (except I don't get an 8800 )
