I have one high end LGA 775 board and another high end AM2 board, so I'm hoping both will stick around for a while so I can part swap when necessary.

Lol naw, I'm no commie.  I came up with the name when I was in like 6th grade for BF 1942 because my friends name was "youstupidcommie".

This is great, I was going to build a dual core but now I'll probably wait for prices to come down more & build a quad.

At stock speeds the 6300 is a fair bit faster. The 4300 is better for OCing on low end hardware due to its higher multiplier. The 6300 is better for OCing if you have better components. Get a 6320 or a 6420 if you can afford it.

I haven't done any OCing on the 6320 and 6420 chips, but if they OC as well as the 6300 and 6400 they will have higher FSB tolerances than the 6600 and 6700. Even with the lower multipliers on these CPUs, higher clocks can probably be achieved if using premium grade components than with a 6600 or 6700. The extra cache on the 6600 and 6700 does boost their speed a bit though and the 6320 and 6420 also have 4MB of cache onboard. If this affects the FSB tolerances on those CPUs then they are probably not such a good buy.

Are you going to OC? If not get a 6600 or 6700. If you are going to OC get something lower end and a big heatsink. Decent MB and high frequency RAM would help too.

Holy crap. a Q6600 for 266? I can afford that! It's too bad I went AMD. I love AMD and all but i'd rather have a C2D or a C2Q than a Athlon 64 X2.
