hey guys,

k so lately my speakers have started to "hiss" quite badly. I can play music, films, games etc. without hiss, but then they're so quiet i can't hear the media themselves .....

i have speakers : (I.T works, 5.1, £30 woot)  + i use Onboard sound ... the hiss also comes from my headset ... so i'm thinking it may be worth getting a sound card .... what do you guys think?

Update the drivers to try?

Cheers,
mitch

When you have the speakers volume too high and not using them you usually hear a sound like that.

Check your audio options, usually when you have your mic sounds turned on you get that sound. It doesn't have to be enabled from playback for your mic to work, only selected as recording source.

I'd say with 99.99999999999999% certainty this is the problem. Muting the mic in both playback and recording when not in use should solve it.
