Considering that there are more Irish in the US than in Ireland (and our Polish population is nearly a fourth of Poland's population), we'd (according to your logic) still win in the ratio battle.

Some of my best friends are Americans whose roots are from Ireland.  I will bad on any country someone is from when they constantly bad on mine.  Besides, Ireland really doesn't have much.  I have trained many Irish from Dublin.  In general they were pencil necked alcoholics with bad teeth and slow wit that didn't really want to leave America (especially the women) because their cold rainy Island offered them little to look forward too.  Couldn't afford a house, car, gas, and had nothing to do.  Women complained that the men were shy introverts that couldn't dance or even talk to them, and they enjoyed being around American men.  I think the better part of the Irish gene pool made it to America long ago, because all the Irish I met were nothing like my American friends that have forefathers from that rock.

Just my opinion based on my encounters with the Irish.

The ones who end up in America from Ireland these days are the ones who can't compete in the highly competitive employment market we have here: they're the failures. They couldn't beat a Pole or a Nigerian for a well-paying job. It's quite sad really given our 4.3% unemployment rate.

And for the record: 'Irish Americans' are not Irish - they're AMERICANS with historical links to Ireland. Dá raibh siad Éireannaigh bheidís in ann thuigbheal an abairt seo ach níl siad.

This is a forum where people can come and argue points and counterpoints rationally. I find that when you get to a certain point in an argument with some people from the rightist end of the political spectrum they just refuse oipnt blank to address a hard fact. The same is true of certain leftist members of the forum though I will concede. I just think it's more prevalent on the rightist side.

I think it is good for Americans to take pride in their roots and to not let go of their original heritage but we're right: a couple of generations down the line you become American, you are no longer Irish in the truest sense of the word.
