"we too can die in a freak gasoline fight accident"

It almost looks like she got in and started her SUV up while pumping...
I've seen this explained on Mythbusters before. The reason it caught fire was because when she re-entered her car, she created static electricity all over her body due to the upholstery of the seat. Because the first metal thing she touched after exiting her car again was the gas handle, it created a spark. Moral: Don't get back in your car when filling gas!
I'd prob hit her.
Ah shit...there was a fire?

yeah wonder if this happened to anyone here on bf2sHavok wrote:

What an idiot. Uh o the gasoline vapor coming out of the hose nozel is on fire! I should take it out! Notice that when she does, it lights all of the gas in the tank of her car on fire too.
If that ever happens to you, do not take the hose out! Just turn it off and immediatly tell the attendant.

WTF MAN! holy shit, she still stands there trying to put that sucker out. darwin award.

same reason why people who place IED's, alot of the times, get blown up themselves in the process.Havok wrote:

1. Brainiac did it first. They also proved that a mobile phone signal literally cannot set off a petrol explosion. Even with 10 of them piled together, all being called at the same time, in a confined space full of fumes.GunSlinger OIF II wrote:

They did, however, have a prat in plastic waterproofs and standing in a bucket set off an explosion by touching the wire connected to them.
2. I think handling large amounts of explosives risks that anyway. Particularly if you're careless when walking away from a PIR trigger.
'Done! Time to go home for a nice kebab.'
*gets up*
*walks in front of bomb*
'Oh bugger.'
*kaboom*
one of my first patrols we had to go report to a suspected IED blast site. turns out this guy was building bombs in his house, blew himself up and his family with him and the best part, THEY THINK THAT WE BOMBED THEM! took a lot of convincing to his neighbors that it wasnt us. but they finally figured it out, this guy just moved there.
its always a blast to go out on patrol to a reported dead body by the side of the road and find some mutilated asshole a few dozen feet from the crater with a shovel and a pick in the area

even if the flame made it all the way to the gas tank, it wouldnt blow, the mixer would be too rich ( which means not enough oxygen to support an explosion) she did do the right thing by stopping the flow of gas.Deadmonkiefart wrote:

Idiot!
noice

She made two critical mistakes that could have killed her:
1. Re-entered her car and did not discharge any static build-up before touching the gas nozzle.
2. She pulled the nozzle out of the car while it was on fire.

Gotta love static electricity! Just like the other day when I was filling at the pump a guy on the other side was pumping while using his treo, I just looked at him and asked him if he wanted to die. I don't think he understood me because he jumped in his Audi and took off!

tru dat, don't ever mess with gasoline, it is not easy to put out, and can easily explode without warning. if anything catches fire at a gas station, leave your car there, run to the station, and tell the attendant, they are trained on how to extinguish gas fires. I think it all stems from parents teaching kids, my parents never left the gas pump when pumping, they stood there and held onto the handle all the time, until they were done (oh wow a waste of 3 minutes right?) but unconciously, I always stand there when I pump my gas, I would never even think of leaving it, and getting back in the car. So to the parents (and someday in the future parents-to-be) TEACH YOUR KIDS GOOD MORALS AND COMMON SENSE!Deadmonkiefart wrote:

ROFL - TRAINED?! Well, it may be different in the states, but in the UK it's a joke - I used to work nights at a busy petrol (Gas for you Americans) station - if a customer had come in and told me their car was on fire, you wouldn't have seen me for dust (I think I'd have hit the cut-off first, but I'd've been outa there already).jamiet757 wrote:

Nobody in the UK ever leaves the petrol pump. I dont think I've ever been to one in the UK that you can use without having your hand there (unless its a HGV pumping station). Anything can happen while you are away from it.......always stay next to it!!
yeah here in U.S. they have it set up so you can pump gas while sitting in the car or while being away from your car. So you dont have to stand over it.buLLet_t00th wrote:

True enough. However I've also seen them stay at the pump, and then get their mobile phone out of their pocket and start to use it, or worse still - a packet of cigarettes!buLLet_t00th wrote:

Petrol stations have PA systems for one reason and one reason only - so the till-jockeys can shout at complete idiots that think sparks/flames and petrol vapours make for a good mix...
mythbusters showed that mobile phones might not necessarily be the cause of explosions, but still I wouldn't use mine, and cigarettes?!? thats just asking to die. An open flame with that much vapor around? great ideaScorpion0x17 wrote:

well I don't know if they go through extensive 9 week training, but they are told what to do in case of an emergency, unlike most drivers out thereScorpion0x17 wrote:
