wtf? they checked on the child every 30 minutes and just went out eating 50 yards away in a hotel restaurant.
i want to see each single one of the yes voters sticking with their children 24/7 without leaving them alone for 30 minutes. the whole kidnapping probably didn't take longer than 3 to 5 minutes. so even if they just left for a few minutes to buy cigarettes or some food for dinner it could have happend. THEY are certainly not the ones to blamed here in my opinion

i have 2 kids and have never left them alone in the waking hours for a second when they were as young as that little girl, and as far  i'm concerned those parents should prosecuted for negligence

ive babysat my good friends kids before. 4 and 5 years old. ill tell ya,  i never once let them out of my sight. i was too paranoid something would happen...idk, i guess once i actually have little devil spawn of my own ill gradually become less of a paranoid guy...
playin is one thing, but while youre eating somewhere else? idk...makes sense to take them with you or something.

If you guys don't know. They left a 3 year old girl and two younger twins in the house. That's right, two babys. Presumably they thought the girl would take care of the babys...

I don't understand how you can leave babies unattended like that.

well the kids were sleeping while this happend. my point is that something like this could even happen if you are upstairs, since assholes like those kidnappers certainly dont use a chainsaw to gain access to the house. you prolly wouldnt hear them sneaking in and out again. people get robbed all the time, while they are asleep in their own house.

+ if I'm not mistaken they even had  a babyphone with them

What a fucking stupid thing to say. Of course that wasn't what will have happened. The kids will have been in bed asleep, and they'll have thought it'll be ok to go out to eat without waking them, as long as they check on them.

I don't think parents should take the blame because they left her alone for a minute or two. The fact that grown up people kidnaps those little children really bothers me...

OK well put comment, but the point is they did leave there children alone for more then 30 Min's at a time, and i know of stories from the news that kids have been taken whilst the parents are downstairs in the same house, but are you telling me seriously if you was in a different country with your kids you would go and have a meal across the street and leave them, i would really hope the answer to that question would be a big NO!!!
all i am saying is that in my opinion if the parents stayed with the children in the same hotel room, then i don't think there would be a case to answer to!

so its still a yes from me

obviously each tv station is telling something different. the version that has been aired in germany is the following:
they were having meal, about 45 yards away, they had babyphones, they checked every 30 minutes and after one of their checks the kid was gone. they did at no point leave the kid alone for more than 30 minutes. correct me if I'm wrong but thats the version the german newsstations keep repeating over and over again.

i say whenever i have a kid i will have one of them leeshe on them. its a bit wierd because a you would expect a dog on a leesh but i have seen a handful of parents do that; its just that kids move alot and plus...a lot of predators are around. its sad but true

The only thing I have to say is that if they were checking as regularly as they say they were, wouldnt the constant trips to and from the room, bring more attention to  them being alone.  Or at the very least arise the attention of a someone near by and make them curious as to why there making such trips, oh hell you know what i mean.

OK erobeus, good point, (my big fuck off Alsatian would have barked the fucking house down before they got within 10 yards of my place) but they still should not have been left alone, keep temptation out of temptations way, kids sleep in pushchairs if they are tired enough, hell, they even sleep in noisy pubs, there is no excuse for leaving young children alone, it should not have happened, anywhere, home or abroad!!!!!

Meh, all of the media's "find maddie" bullshit got old really fast. All the celebrity media whores jumping on the bandwagon is pathetic. Give the 2.5 million to a worthwhile charity, the only way she's alive is if her abductor hasn't grown bored of raping her.

Granted, I don't have kids yet -- but I say yes and no.

YES because under the situation, in a tourist town of a foreign country, you *never* leave your children alone.

NO because the parents can't be blamed for some sick freak abducting a child, no matter how (careful|negligent) they were.

That's sick, disgusting and insensitive.  Having said that, we all deep down fear it is probably true.

Only the raping bit was sick. The rest was true. The media have turned this into some sort of national disaster. I really couldn't care less anymore. I only feel a little bit for the little girl, not their family and not nobody else. I mean what the fuck can we do/care over here in England. It's more of a Portuguese problem than a problem over here. Get over it already. The money will just go into the pockets of the family, making them celebrities out of this. Believe it or not, that's how this society is.

I always stayed with my parents when i was a kid because i always thought they would abandon me, lmao

But i really don't fully understand the story, why would the parents not be eating with the kids? sorry if I'm just miss-reading something, but it isn't making sense to me right now.

i guess it was the sense of we are in a lovely little village in Portugal what possibly could happen, everyone seems so nice and pleasant, and when you are feeling like that i guess you tend to drop your guard for a while in the state  of being relaxed, and there is the other possibility that we all at some time have thought, you know the one " IT COULD NEVER HAPPEN TO ME" but i am sorry to say on this occasion it did, we all know it very sad but as time goes on its going to be harder for the person who has this child to give her back, all the press coverage has probably got them so scared that they will probably get rid of the child in some way and try and forget it...i hope to fuck they just leave her in the road alive for someone to find..
