Hello everyone...here we go !

If i load up bf2 and i join any server (low or high ping dosent matter) and the map is loaded i click "join game" or if i wait the music in the background get stuck like i would lag. Then it loads up the map and sometimes i got an instant massage "there is a problem with your connection" and loads up the main menu or it let me join the server and after 5-10 minutes its crashing.
This problem is over 1 year now since we installed a D-Link 524 Router but the problem was allways in a different way. This issue with loading up and music gets stuck is like 2 months ago now and it sometimes happend once but now if i get this crash i will crash 2-3 time if i try to join back. It also disconnects me from X-fire so there must be a problem with my router but im not sure.
Anyone else got some problems like this ?

And the worst is that its a random issue so i dont know when will it happen..sometimes its working sometimes not and sometimes it crashes after 1-2 hours of playing.
I reinstalled the 1.41 but it didnt help and no i dont want to reinstall bf2 and all the expansions coz i wont able to install again as i allways have "patching faild" issues with SF 1.1 and 1.41 so i want avoid reinstalling the whole game.
Thx for reading and please post and ideas that might could help !

Funny you should ask my boyfriend just moved and now has a new dlink, they now live in an apartment building so they wanted to have a secure connetion but his computer wouldn't come up with the option with the password, (therefore he left it unprotected and had your problems) turns out windows needs to be disabled  in looking for the connection and you need to go through your wireless card to set up the connection. Needless to say our clan expierences less swearing on vent from him. If you need further instructions I will be talking to him in a hour and will get the finer details.

Ok, I asked, lets just say he would never be one for online tech support, LOL. He's told me how he did before cause he was excited that it helped, but he said he googled dlink and the model #, I did that so I could get you the specific link but found nothing. So when he comes over Friday night, May 18th. I have him show me what he did exactly, and or the specific link. So if you haven't figured out by then I'll be back with the finer details. Sorry I couldn't help right away.

Thank you very much for your help !

I also really dont know whats going on because just today i had 3 times crash to desktop while playing SF and when i was spawning it jsut crashed...like the good old 1.3 patch times :S
Some friends told me that D-Linlk-524 has some connection problems like it would drop connection for less then 1 sec whats enough for me in online gameing to loose the connection to the server..
I also ask my self how can it be that we all are still playing this game which one is full with bugs,glitches,crashes,problems....so on....

Well, I moved to a new house back in December and uped my cable from 3 to 10, so here I think aahh some kick ass gaming right? But instead I would crash to desk top and lost connection, to the point I shut down game being very irritated!!!  I also ran emule. Everytime I ran emule I would have to reconfigure my Netgear router (I was ready to spend the $ on a gaming router) But why would it work with lower cable and 3 computers hard wired to it and now with higher cable and only two computers connected? And to have to reset it every time, plus my boyfriend is my heli pilot and he would lag on the other computer so bad he wouldn't fly. So messing around I went into the control panel under internet connections and opened all ports and tada everything is fine I can even run emule while both of gaming and and have not one problem!!! He'd rather play here on my kids computer than his own now. (Even before his move and his recent DLinks problem.)
I did have a CTD problem at old house with the new 1.4 patch, so I did a reinstall of everything and downloaded a NEW 1.4 patch for that and that fixed the CTD, if you have done that recently then try the open all ports, then if that doesn't help or change then like I said I'll figure out how he use his wireless card to configure the concection.
By the way are you hard wired in to your router? Or off a wireless card?
I'm thinking off your wireless card and so it needs to be configured to D-Link router..

Actually i dont have a wireless card in my PC. I got a router and ADSL 8 Mbit connection whats split between 3 PCs in the house. The problems started since my dad installed thjis router and split internet between 2 PCs at home. My problem what i said with the laggy sound when its loading up a map is only once then if i switch to another server and i click "join" its all fine.
And i also finded out that if i run emule (coz i also use it) when i have this disconnecting issues the problem seems to be solved and i wont loose connection after 5 mins of running emule....so its pretty wired !
I might need to get another router froma  friend and try it....if it will work fine then my D-Link 524 suks and need to be changed...
Of course my dad is saysing that its a problem of the game and the game servers are too far and so on but its not true coz as i said since we have this router i got this crappy problems.

Hi all, just my 2 cents worth. I used to have that router also until i read this:

"The DL-524 will not allow you to forward enough ports, to run Battlefield 2. You should try using the DMZ portion of this router if it is available. Alternatively you can try switching the router to bridged mode. You will need to contact your ISP to switch to bridged mode, so they can make the required changed on their end. "

That was found @ http://www.portforward.com/english/rout … ield_2.htm

I knew i'd seen it somewhere. Anyway, i solved the problem by getting another router. I would'nt recommend using the dmz option as it makes it fairly unsafe.

Hope this helps in some way.

If im right that DMZ is like a firewall from the router what blocks the internet on teh router so your PC is safe and you dont need much protection.
So i will need anew router...do you guys know a type from D-Link whats working without these problems ???
Or if i buy a new one wich one should i get ?

Hi again, ( does this make it 3 cents worth? ), if it has to be a Dlink, go for the DSL-2540T, as from what i read it seems less troublesome.

A bit about DMZ: The point of a DMZ is that connections from the internal and the external network to the DMZ are permitted, whereas connections from the DMZ are only permitted to the external network — hosts in the DMZ may not connect to the internal network. Confusing? Yup, sure is.

I have to say though, im not a router guru and im sure others will have different suggestions. That being said, good luck mate.

Router or modem?

I have a D-Link modem, and yes, it sucks.

Anyways, check your firewall, that might be slowing it down.

In the options of the router there was this:

Maximum idle time[5] minutes
I changed it to zero and since that i have no problems except the thing when i join the server and i get lag like i posted above in my first post.

Yes, my boyfriend found that too. He has a different version but same brand router, they finally gave up the cable company and switched to DSL Verizon and now are problem free!!!! (well going on 4 days now), we will see, his downloading and uploading are now 6 times faster, hmmmm.
