My mom and step-dad went on a 2 week holiday to Turkey just under 2 weeks ago and are due to home tomorrow night, but when i came in from work yesterday, my brothers told me my mom has been rushed into hospital because she has got Pneumonia or something and ive been getting phone calls about if i ever need anything just ask..

And the thought of my mom in a poor country in a crappy hospital with old equiptment makes me weep and 3000 miles away makes it even worse

So someone please tell me this isnt a bad illness and can be treated easily plzzzz.

from wiki;

Vaccines to prevent certain types of pneumonia are available. The prognosis for an individual depends on the type of pneumonia, the appropriate treatment, any complications, and the person's underlying health.

did she get a vacination or not ?

Pneumonia is an illness of the lungs and respiratory system. Pneumonia is a common illness which occurs in all age groups. Your mom is going to be ok, and I'm shure that turkish hospitals are not that bad.

Ditto, but apparently it's not. My dad had it for a while, and he's fine. Just had to have anti biotics for a while and lie in bed.

I had pneumonia when I was 8. I just had to stay inside for a while and eat some medicine that tasted terrible, she'll be fine.

Like the guys have said, there should be nothing to worry about.

Pneumonia can be dangerous if left untreated, but if she's gone into hospital, she'll be perfectly all right.  When being taken care of by doctors it's really only a threat to the very, very elderly.

Turkey's medical facilities shouldn't be all that bad.  If she's in one of the big cities she'll be as well taken care of as anywhere else, and even if their holiday took them to some of the more backwards places, it's still something that can be perfectly well treated with antibiotics, there's no need for extremely advanced equipment.  Don't forget that Turkey is quite close to qualifying for EU membership, they're not all that far behind the rest of Europe in terms of technology or economy; your mum isn't in hospital in some little village in an African jungle, it'll be a modern facility in a mostly modern country.

She'll be well taken care of, don't worry (Turkey's making a big thing about taking good care of its tourists these days), she'll be home and well soon.

Best wishes.

I've had pneumonia, sucks, but unless your mom is like 80 or in failing health anyway, she'll be fine. Anti-biotics nip it in the butt.

It depends, if your mother has asthma and she gets it then she will have had many times (but im assuming not) but otherwise she will be fine. I have gotten it many times and mainly you just feel pretty weak and cough and sometimes have trouble breathing. She will probably receive an IV which will restore her energy and then give her antibiotics. Also don't worry about Turkey. I have been there many times and yes the country may be poor, but that doesn't mean that there doctor's are dumb. They are just as smart as other doctors but it is a 3rd-world country and might not be as sanitary as the U.S. or U.K. The people there are nice and im sure she will be fine. What city was she at anyway? (just wondering)
