"A Stryker brigade from Fort Lewis, Wash., will wear Land Warrior equipment when it deploys to Iraq as part of a troop surge. The 16-pound system has a dozen pieces of new gear and plugs infantrymen into the global battlefield network—but not all the soldiers like the hardware."

Looks like we finally get minimaps in real life.

I know, it doesn't even look very big. I'm sure that will get more troops killed with the sheer weight of it than it will help.

I'm sure it will get lighter over time, but it thought they cancelled the project (scratch that saw the Stryker brigade). France is the only country with a similar system in full operation called Felin. What the hell do France need it for, lol.

Here's some infor on Future Force Warrior

Well, this is only the beginning. The system definitely will get lighter as the technology gets more and more advanced and as people find new materials to construct it out of. Maybe it will be like GRAW 2. Albeit much later in the future.

Still though, 16 pounds AND the rest of your normal gear.

No, then they would need the Future Weapons to introduce it in /dramatic voice.

7kg isn't much considering the spread and positioning of the system. I'm more worried about it getting in the way of other, more important things.

How much do the soldiers lug about in the field anyway? Average weight of a soldiers equipment has apparently remained around the 45kg mark for most of history.

Would love to see Gunslingers views on this topic.
Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.
