I'm sure everyone knows the water on wake is only about a meter deep, but that's all that's needed to hinder land vehicles and infantry from invading the beaches. Do you think Wake would be more balanced if all the water was removed, and USMC had additional Tanks/APC/DPVa added instead of boats?
I would find it interesting, and pretty fun. Making it more desert-like would be cool.
Instead of spawning RIBs in the Essex, there should be LAV-25s. Also, add the Linebacker and make it able to go in water. This way, the Marines have a fighting chance at landing on the beach.
No water? That sounds like 2142.

I think it would. I mean, from Carrier to Island, probably not since the J10 can still as easily rape tanks and DPVs driving that huge distance.
But from Arty Island to the actual island, it would somewhat balance it out more. The ATs on shore will probably have a harder time ATing DPVs and the US tanks have a chance to take out the camping tanks on shore.

making it a land-based map would definately be more balanced and make it easier to cap flags with the USMC.it depends on the landscape and where the flag positions are but it would be interesting.i like Wake the way it is though.
Ya but from the carrier to about arty island is pretty deep.
There'd be no carrier without water, so it could just be like a trench out there.Special_ops_3 wrote:

a mini-Aegis or a floating linebacker would very much balance wake. im game. Wake without water wouldn't be as pretty, though
Yes a big ass trench. That you wouldn't be able to get up.Havok wrote:

Wake Island is probably one of the most beautiful maps in the game and a good US team can take the island as long as they coordinate stuff. Without water it would look dumb, feel dumb and keep in mind, wake island is a real place....
I think it would be cool if the water in the curve of the island that is shallow should be good for hummers, DPV/FAV and armor to drive across.

That is a lot like saying the MECSF on Iron Gator should have a better way of getting on the US S.E.A.L.S. ship. Ok, it is easier than on Wake Island but still, it is the same type of setup.
oh MODDERS...?
anyone wanna take up this challenge? (is it even possible)?

Bf2 needs mods!cowami wrote:

it might even up the map so that chinese dont rape every round
however, if it was just a barren wasteland...i would oppose cuz it'll be too vulnerable
hills and terrain ftw

The solution to your water-crossing problem:
Have that spawn next to the Essex, loaded with tanks, AA and APC.

If the water was at the level where you can drive over & boats can pass over easy, that'd work.
But I'd only do it around certain sections, because it'd become horribly unbalanced (more people would land their planes and repair with engineer if the whole center of the map was usable)
An APC could quickly get 5 or so people almost straight to airfield if they were lucky, I'd think boats would still be needed.
Still a Low tide Wake island would be different, I'd like to see it.

And promptly have it simultaneously bombed, Eryxed, tank shelled, 50 cal-ed, and TVed into oblivion by the Chinese.globefish23 wrote:

Add 2 carriers on each side of the island. There's even bunkers on the sides facing toward nothing, so with 2 carriers at different locations they would be used. And to balance it out the second carrier would only have transports.
Edit: Wake would be cool without water but only at certain areas, like the center and more on the north and south areas that stretch toward the arty island.

It wouldn't be an island then, would it?
It's only 3 meters deep in the shallow areas near the land. The ocean is deeper.
If you removed the water, it would look like a desert with a few hills and palm trees.
It could be on a minimod called:
Battlefield 2: Desert Days

Or you could have it with no water, but have random ass buildings and crashed things littered alllllllllllll over the place were the water was. For cover for infantry as they rush the beaches of wake.
Well, vehicles driving through the shallow water would get bombed, eryxed, tank shelled, 50 cal-ed and TVed too.cowami wrote:

Besides, with the marines having a fast hovercraft the whole map concept of landing on an island would be maintained.
Also, with shallow water, what would the Chinese stop from invading and baseraping the Essex then? Even now they move their vehicles as close towards the arty island as possible.
You would get stupid tank battles knee-deep in the water.
cool idea ... i would like to add ... put Essex in the middle near the fisherboat wreck
For those that don't know...this image is actually stored in your game files on your HDD. So there was, at one time, intent to spawn this vehicle...or maybe in a future patch.globefish23 wrote:

One thing I like about 2142 that I dislike about BF2 is that Air Power does not rape/own in 2142, in fact, only the good pilots own with it. I'd like to see better anti-air in BF2. Two guys in vodniks/hummers can take a helo down pretty quick but planes, even flown by a novice pilot like myself, seem to be subject only to other planes. Even then, you'll kill 5-10 ground troops before another plane shoots you down. Pretty good ratio in my book. But then, I fly like crap so of course I'm bitter.

It would be a truly awesome alternative.
its would be like....a desert map then... with alot of cat and mouse play .....with the jeeps and buggies....MAD MAX!!
