hi fellas.

my idiot brother d/led a 'keygen' that was just spyware or a virus.

The problem is, even after using spybot search and destroy, the spyware is gone, but there is some invisible process that consumes 50% of the CPU and shuts down explorer as soon as it starts (even when starting it from task manager).

In safe mode, same thing.......

The real clinch is that I uninstalled my anti-virus the day before in anticipation of installing a new one - and my stupid brother decided to fuck up the entire computer first before I had the chance.

I am very pissed off atm, and can not think of a solution. I also have an assignment due in two days that I ahve hardly started - so I don't have time to fuck around with the computer all day.

Please help!

Delete it in your registry files.
You must completely get rid of it from your computer before it goes away.

I have no fucking idea what "it" is............

is there some way I can find out, or can I just restore the registry somehow?

use this: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysint … lorer.mspx

It will show you all file handles and registry entries a process is associated with. ... free.

I will try, but the problem is, without explorer you cant do much (ie  no start bar, desktop etc any gui at all really, except task manager).

I really need some way to restore the registry to 2 weeks ago. (and system restore failed when i tried it).

ok well I have reinstalled over the top of the previous XP installation. The only problem is that I used a normal XP home cd, because I could not access the recovery partition on the laptop.

I now have an extremely crippled laptop, as all the drivers are toshiba specific. I need to get into that partition! How would I go about burning an installation cd from it? ( i cant see it in my computer etc, but it showed up as a separate partition when reinstalling the new XP........

you can go to the Toshiba website and get the specific drivers for your laptop... and you should do an online virus scan if you can access the internet... you can also try nod32 antivirus.... it has a free trial... and its a really great AV...
Love is the answer
